Just get them rolled/hammered flat. Hit up Sergey's House of Wheels on Facebook. He did my IS and did a great job.

I rolled a few of my friends' fenders and none of them had their paint crack. One car had paint that's 12 years old with rust spots and it still didn't crack. You just need to heat up the paint hot enough without bubbling it. I plan to roll mine myself depending on the set of wheels I get in the future.

I would shave...what's worked great on other cars doesn't mean it will work on your IS. I had mine rolled and regretted it.

if you search there was a good thread with some explanation about the rear panels and the process/materials used during mfg on the newer generation models.

Sergey rolled mine and did a great job. No paint cracked at all. The inside lip which was rolled had some paint come off, but it's on the inside where it can't be seen and sergey hit it with some touch-up paint, so it won't rust.

+1. I had him paint my front end and refinish my wheels also, no complaints and only praise.
