Here's a good summary, I found

"Public Act 096-0815
Effective 10/30/2009

35% is legal all the way around.

35% Front/35% Rear
- or -
50% Front/30% Rear

Also, You can do 6" from top of the windshield

UNDER 30% ON ANY REAR WINDOW MAKES IT ILLEGAL TO TINT IN FRONT (unless vehicle is classified "MPV" and has privacy glass - 50% Front)

It really depends where you live.

I live in the suburbs and I never once got a ticket for having no front plates, but in the city, its a completely different story. The first 5 or 6 times I parked there on the street (Lincoln park area/Loop area) I got 3 tickets. After that I couldn't keep paying for them so I just put a makeshift plate holder so that you can't see the holes if I were to take the plate off.

I agree I live in the Arlington Heights area and they dont care around here as I have been pulled over before as well as I had cops inspect my car at intersections, but Ive been told that in the city its a different story lol so I just decided to take a different car if I do go to the city.

That sucks. It would be nice for my car to be legal.
