Plastic License Plate Covers Now Illegal
Just an FYI to all members, plastic license plate covers that are even clear, are illegal in Illinois. I just read this in the paper and removed the ones on my mother's vehicle. It is possible that the IPASS offense governing bodies have become upset with the expensive plastic covers that deflect the light while a pictue is taken at time of violation. I was under the impression these do not work, but I am not sure the reason and rational. I just wanted to help members acoid the hassle.
From ISP:
Most states prohibit any kind of tinted or color license plate covers. Until January 1, 2006, Illinois Law allowed clear covers but prohibited tinted ones such as you mention. Now, Illinois law prohibits covers of any kind, even clear ones. Some other states do the same, the law varies by state.

this is now just illegal??*scratches head*
last year at school the cops pulled me over for having it on my front AND rear saying that it was illegal since ppl can just splash mud onto it and get it covered..
I have yet to see plates in the rear completely covered in mud.

Illegal in New Jersey also but if your plates peel off you could get a ticket also. Here the letter "O" and ZERO are the same. I got stopped for the way my car was built the cop was such a jerk he called for two more back up then told me he could not read the state due frame around plate But he was baffled by why I was not on file with the DMV never told him he let me go. When I broke down once the cop was cool and he was pressing the pealed paper down when I said try an "O" everything was OK I got no ticket.
