Mercedes-Benz Posts Best-Ever February Sales Volume With 24,522 Units

ATLANTA, March 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercedes-Benz today reported the highest February sales in its history with 24,522 units up 6.9% from the 22,941 vehicles sold in February 2016. Adding 2,513 units for Vans and 348 units for smart, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) achieved its highest February to date with a grand total of 27,383 vehicles, up 6.8% from a year ago.

"We're off to a solid start to the year, and expect steady growth as we approach the close of the first quarter," said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA. "Strong demand for our SUV lineup continues, and we look forward to the launch of more new models throughout the year."

Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in January included the C-Class, GLE and E-Class (including the CLS) model lines. The C-Class took the lead at 6,145, followed by the GLE sales of 4,017. The E-Class rounded out the top three with 3,471 units sold.

Mercedes-AMG high-performance models sold 2,548 units in February, with a total of 5,144 units sold year-to-date (up 31.6%).

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 10,075 vehicles in February, an increase of 0.9% when compared to the same month last year (9,989).

The sales number just tell then reliability is not everything in Luxury industry.
Someone argue that customer is buying SUV more right now, that's maybe true, but the real luxury brand still sell sedan a lot.

Hyundai Division posts sales of 51,438 units

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (March 1, 2017) - Volvo Car USA, LLC, (VCUSA) reported U.S. sales of 4,651 vehicles for the month of February, an 11.6 percent decrease. Year to date sales are down 14.5 percent.

XC90 continues to see strong global demand, which impacted supply in February for the US market. Increased production is expected from Q2 onwards.

Total sales excluding XC90 were up 18.7 percent versus February 2016. This was led by strong 60-cluster sales across the board with S60, V60 and XC60 all posting double digit sales growth versus February 2016. The XC60 was the top selling model for the month with 1,388 vehicles sold.

Volvo is implementing a sweeping $11 billion transformation plan that has involved the development of its own modular vehicle architecture, a new engine range, global manufacturing capability, a completely renewed product range and world leading developments in safety, autonomous driving and connectivity.

Mercedes-Benz rolled through another month as the top-selling luxury auto brand in the U.S. And in addition to drawing more customers, Mercedes-Benz is getting buyers to pay up.

The Daimler unit sold 24,522 cars and SUVs in the U.S. last month, a 6.9 percent increase from a year earlier. BMW AG’s namesake brand rose 0.3 percent to 22,558 and Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus line tumbled 21 percent to 18,338.

After snatching the luxury sales crown from BMW last year, Mercedes looks poised to clinch the title again. Deliveries of the redesigned E-class sedan surged 29 percent, while the GLS full-size SUV more than doubled. Daimler also boosted its average transaction price by about $4,700, according to TrueCar Inc.’s ALG.

Along with Volkswagen AG’s Audi, Mercedes has “done more to drive demand for its utility portfolio than BMW or Lexus have done,” Eric Lyman, ALG’s chief analyst, said in a phone interview. With the GLS, Mercedes is “the only automaker that seems to have a legitimate competition with the Escalade” sold by Cadillac.

The jump in prices consumers paid for Mercedes models last month far exceeded the $661 more spent on incentives per vehicle. The pricing figures include Daimler’s Smart small cars and some of its work trucks, which aren’t part of Daimler’s luxury sales tally. The deliveries counts also exclude BMW’s Mini brand.

While sales of the Escalade slid 21 percent last month to 1,434, GLS deliveries surged to 2,467. GM also sold 1,012 extra-long Escalade ESV models last month, 3.3 percent fewer than a year earlier.

Audi deliveries jumped 17 percent to 13,741, boosted by a 36 percent increase in SUV sales.

(MAHWAH, NJ) – March 1, 2017 -- Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC today reported February 2017 U.S. sales: Jaguar sales were 3,484 units, a 130 percent increase from 1,512 units in February 2016; Land Rover sales reached 5,747 units, down 10 percent from record February sales of 6,417 units in 2016; Jaguar Land Rover February U.S. sales for both brands hit 9,231 units, a 16 percent increase from 7,929 units in February 2016; making it the best ever Jaguar Land Rover February sales month.

“We are very pleased to have our best ever February retail month in the U.S. with both car and SUV sales growing across the two brands,” said Joe Eberhardt, President and CEO, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. The Jaguar brand continues to grow at a torrid pace on strength of the two newest products, the XE and F-PACE. Land Rover is coming off record 2016 sales and getting ready for the launches of the Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover Velar coming later this year.”

For the full year 2016, Jaguar Land Rover U.S. sales were up 24 percent to 105,104 units sold, compared to 85,048 units sold in 2015. With this performance, 2016 becomes the new U.S. high water mark for Jaguar and Land Rover brands’ combined sales, surpassing previous high of 102,191 sales achieved in 2002.

U.S. BRAND HIGHLIGHTS

Land Rover

For the month of February, Land Rover sales hit 5,747 units sold, the second best ever February retail month for the brand (February of 2016 was the all-time February high for the brand in the U.S.). For the month of February, the Range Rover Sport was the volume leader hitting 1,824 units sold.

Range Rover hit 1,688 sales, up 10 percent for its highest February total ever. The Range Rover Evoque had a strong February with an increase of 25 percent to 1,030 sales.

The runout of the LR4 continued with a total of only 68 sales versus 1,047 sold in 2016. The new Discovery seven-passenger SUV goes on sale in spring.

The 2017 Land Rover model line-up features 5 models: The all-new Discovery, which replaces the LR4, features a radical new design language for the full-size, optional 7 passenger SUV and all-new levels of refinement, passenger technology and driver assistance options. The Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque continue steadfast, both powered by 240-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engines. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport model lines expand for 2017 each with a new model. Replacing the limited edition HST model in the Range Rover Sport line-up, the Range Rover Sport HSE Dynamic features a 380-hp supercharged V6 engine, dynamic body trim appointments and black trim finishes. Within the full-size Range Rover line-up, Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations has introduced the SVAutobiography Dynamic. Based off of the long wheelbase SVAutobiography, the SVAutobiography Dynamic offers a driver focused experience through a standard wheelbase, suspension and chassis tuning and a lowered ride height. Both Range Rover model lines feature five powertrain options – a 340-hp supercharged V6, a 380-hp supercharged V6, a 510-hp supercharged V8, a 550-hp supercharged V8 and a new 254-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel.

Jaguar
For the month of February, Jaguar sales were 3,484 units, a 130 percent increase from 1,512 units in February 2016; making it the best Jaguar February sales month since 2004.

The Jaguar F-PACE hit 1,596 units sold, making it the brand’s volume leader for the month, and the XE hit 993 units sold, its 2nd best sales month since going on sale last spring.

Jaguar launched 2 new entry luxury vehicles in 2016: the 2017 XE compact luxury sedan, starting at $34,900 (1), and the 2017 F-PACE compact luxury SUV, starting at $40,990 (1). Competitively priced within their respective segments, these two new models appeal to an all-new segment of buyers for the brand. The XE is available with two gasoline engines, a 240-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 340-hp supercharged V6. The F-PACE is available with the same 340-hp supercharged V6, as well as a 380-hp supercharged V6 in the ‘S’ model. Both vehicles are available with a 180-hp turbocharged diesel engine, which returns 42mpg highway (2) on Jaguar XE models and 33mpg highway (2) on F-PACE models.

The Jaguar XF is now offered with three available powertrains, two supercharged V6 powertrains producing 340- and 380-hp and a 180-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel offering an EPA certified 42mpg highway. (2) The 2017 Jaguar XJ retains its position within the Jaguar line-up as the pinnacle in luxury for the brand. It continues to be available with 3 powertrain options – a 340-hp supercharged V6, a 470-hp supercharged V8 and a 550-hp supercharged V8 – is offered in both standard and long wheelbase lengths in both rear- and all-wheel drive configurations. For 2017, the Jaguar F-TYPE offers buyers with an all-new derivative in the F-TYPE SVR. Powered by the brand’s proven supercharged V8 engine, the F-TYPE SVR has been further enhanced to offer 575-hp and 516-lb. ft. of torque enabling a top speed of 200mph (4,5) and a 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds. i keep saying Lexus suffers from lack of breadth and depth

let's talk depth

the GS 350 is underpowered
the GS F is underpowered and lacks awd
the GS needs a ttv6 option
the GS hybrid is underpowered and lacks an awd option

the IS 350 motor is old
the IS 200t motor is blah
the IS 300 may be ok, I am seeing a fair number of those but it is basically a detuned old 350 motor
the IS hybrid, well I never see those
plus the back seat lack of space reflects Lexus being dumb
at least they did a few things to refresh the cheapo interior

IS Hybrid is not offered in NA.

The 2017 update did indeed make some nice improvements to the IS interior.

Agreed not to mention they have nothing exciting for the young male client (18-35) that is relatively affordable.

How do you not have RC convertible or an ISF?
This is nothing but short sighted planning as they can't build upon the original ISF and IS convertible.
Those were existing models that had established client base that basically Lexus just said were not important.

The new gen GS should be in its final stages of development instead we get rumors that it may be dropped.
I remember when the 4th Gen GS came out, they would have Fsport accessories (exhaust, springs) that never came.
GSF was too little too late.

The planning, follow up and overall product consistency is no longer there to keep up anywhere with MB, BMW or Audi.
I dont see any signs that Toyota corporate plans to change.....

My thoughts on this year sales so far - I think the Q50 with the new V6 turbo is stealing IS sales especially after the poor IS refresh. Plus new players with Jag XE and Alfa Giulia.

Q60 coupe is taking the RC sales as it has more powerful engines and convertible is still on the way.

Genesis G80 continues to do well and the new Sport model with new V6 turbo will further make GS more obsolete.

Lexus getting attacked from all sides - they can't compete with product line of German 3 and then Infiniti, Genesis, Caddy is taking further sales away with some of their new models.
