Passing this along, CL folks. This was overwhelmingly defeated due to public outcry so the article says but the fact that it got proposed in the first place made my eyes go wide.
Does anyone in Oregon know anything about this rejected Oregon bill HB2877 who can tell us anything?

I live in Lake Oswego, a suburb about 10 miles south of Portland. This doesn't surprise me at all. The people of Portland (and to a lesser extent Salem, the capital) are insane, and I do not mean in a figurative sense. Theirs is an alternate reality.
By the way the recent ice storms have been fun to track on TV news. Portland refuses to lay down salt for those rare times when salt is really needed and as a result we have hours of footage of slow-motion auto pinball as cars, buses, and even fire trucks slowly glide down our city hills, bouncing off of other vehicles. And the funny thing is that the auto body shops convinced the legislature a decade or so ago that there was no need for the car owner to get the cheapest bid for body work paid for by insurance. As a result there are some very wealthy auto body shop owners here.
