Current Expedition is 365hp/420ftlbs. The 2018 expedition will likely get the same 3.5L Ecoboost as the 2018 F150 which is supposed to have 375hp/470ftlbs.

The Armada is now the Nissan Patrol, same IMO great truck that's been out for a few years now in other world markets, designed to go head to head with the Land Cruiser. We've had it here for a few years as the Infiniti QX80/QX56. The design isn't as fresh as the GM SUV's or the new Ford, but this is Nissan's made in Japan top of the line SUV and is IMO better than the Land Cruiser when you consider its bigger inside, just as capable off road, great for towing a boat and $30,000 cheaper than a Land Cruiser.

I had no clue the Sequoia was refreshed for 2018. Although the front looks excellent, it was a very weak refresh IMO. The rear is unchanged and the interior electronics have been upgraded. Other than that, nothing. I'm quite surprised a new generation wasn't debuted. 9 years is a long time for the current model, but of course not by Toyota standards lol. The Expedition and Sequoia are the two only full sizes I'd consider if I were in the market, and with the all new Exp against the Sequoia (which I favor), there's no competition. The Exp takes the win hands down.

It's also just a stopgap model until the new generation of these trucks are unveiled within the next 1-2 years.

Interesting tidbit- apparently the concept QX80 was so much better looking than the production version they pulled it from NYIAS. This being talk I heard from around the watercooler, for clarification.

Sort of. There are two Patrols in different parts of the world. The current Patrol and the Patrol Y61

The current Land Cruiser is a nicer, more prestigious SUV IMO.

Probably worse. At least on a cruise ship, the bridge is up quite high, juts out forward and to the sides, so that you look down on the rest of the ship, including the otherwise high prow.

Agreed, the Land Cruiser is a better truck, perhaps the best built SUV in the world. Now is it $25,000 to $35,000 worth of nicer than the Armada/Patrol, Expidition, or Suburban??? That's what I have a hard time justifying.

I appreciate that Nissan has switched the production of the armada into Japan which alleviates some of the niggling issues Nissan USA assembly has. Overall if you want couches and recliners in a vehicle you want to be in an Armada. The LC is more modern inside and of course capable in relation to its offroad fine tuning but at the cost of overall interior volume in relation to the others.

I expect the Armadas a fleet favorite due to pricing and associated costs.

Incidentally the 2018 Honda Odyssey, 2016+ Pilot, 2017+ CRV and the 2017 Ridgeline all have pretty much the same face.....thin, average and fat Pilot's =)

Default 2018 Ford Expedition gears up for the trails with FX4 trim

An aluminum body and more powerful engines aren't the only new things featured on the 2018 Ford Expedition. Ford has revealed that it will now get an FX4 trim level complete with an array of goodies for going off-road.

Mechanical improvements start with an electronic limited-slip differential in the rear that can shift power left or right depending on which tire has traction. This should be a boon for slippery or rocky trails, and it will get extra help from the chunkier all-terrain tires and stiffer shocks fitted to the FX4. Those tires are mounted to 18-inch aluminum wheels specific to the trim level. The FX4 also gets a number of skid plates to protect vulnerable parts underneath the Expedition. There's also a "sand shield" to prevent sand and dirt from packing up the intercoolers and keeping air from flowing over them. The FX4 comes with the standard 375-horsepower EcoBoost V6 fitted to other Expeditions.

The FX4 trim isn't all mechanical upgrades, though. It also comes with a couple of subtle FX4 badges around the exterior. Some unique running boards are also fitted. Inside, rubber floor liners help keep the dirt from getting down into carpeting. Ford hasn't released pricing for the FX4 yet, but the SUV will be available this fall.

Ford can't seem to decide whether FX4 is a trim level on it's own or an option package on other trims. They keep changing every year.

I'd like to see a "Raptor Expidition" myself. I know that would sell, as nobody else offers anything else like it(or that silly).
