Default disassembling a car. When is it ok to leave the battery plugged in?

I want to remove the front passenger seat. It's a power seat and probably has a power connector or two underneath.

Repair manual always says to disconnect one battery terminal when playing with any powered car component. But what will really happen if I leave the battery plugged and then unplug the power seat?
I just don't want reprogram everything after disconnecting the battery, so I'd rather leave the battery always connected if there is no real impact.

You'll be fine.

Does the power-seat circuit have a fuse in the fuse-panel that you can pull? If so, that would cut off power to the seat-circuits without having to disconnect the battery terminal.

Moderators: I'd suggest moving this question to the Maintenance Forum.

I think you'll be okay just unplugging the connectors. If it were a German car, I'd unplug the battery, because the electrical systems in those cars are way more(needlessly IMO) complicated.

Good call on just removing the fuse! It's one of those better safe than sorry situations. It may be fine but some people have fried MICU/ circuit boards by doing something as silly as replace a courtesy light bulb.

It's only a worry if the seat has an airbag in it.

If it doesn't, don't bother. Those circuits are just seatbelt sensors and seat motors.

^This, be cautious of the airbags, better safe than sorry. If they go off you have a huge replacement cost, and high probability of serious injury.
