Thanks for posting. Now that they are one company it's odd that there's such a content disparity.

As an aside, it's the large number of channels offered which explains why the sound quality of satellite radio absolutely sucks...

Every car I have has a satellite radio, I've given up extending beyond the free trials. The idea is solid, the execution is horrible. Fewer channels and better sound quality would be the way to improve the service. And don't get me started on their customer service...!

^^^ I forget just how bad the quality is until I switch over to my iPod and the clarity is much better.

I have still found the quality to be better than anything I've streamed over Bluetooth audio in a number of cars.

I'm with Tango on that one. I have a Sirius/XM package for my car (they blll you every three months), and it sounds just as good as anything else I hear on it. I don't listen to very many different channels, though....mostly Christian or news-related.

I'm hoping you're calling and pretending to cancel before each renewal period. If you do, it'll get escalated and they'll give you a better deal. You really shouldn't be paying more than $25-$30 for 6 months.

No, it's a little more than that. But I'm also a firm believer in being honest....I don't like to double-talk to people or try and be evasive. You might save a few bucks by doing that, but I just don't believe in that kind of practice.

I do this with both cars. I've been paying $25 for 5 or 6 months depending on their offer at the time. When I threaten to cancel I'm being honest, but it's never come to that recently. The one time I did cancel, the discounted offers started arriving in the mail pretty quick.

Seriously? It's the same as ~96kbs MP3.

That's the boat I'm in. I really don't think it's worth the original price they quote and I tell them that every 5-6 months my renewal is due. Then I accept the same discounted rate. If they didn't offer me the discounted rate I'd absolutely follow through with canceling it.

it is indeed. Channels are broadcast with a bitrate of 44 to 64 kb, the codec is reportedly a variant of AAC - so roughly equivalent to 96kbs MP3 at their very top end. Some channels such as talk or news channels are using even lower bitrates....,

I totally get that some people don't really focus that much on audio quality, but the quality of satellite radio is absolute garbage. Notably, you can stream SiriusXM programming with their app. That uses a higher bitrate, and the audio is much better.

Exactly but I am not pretending to cancel when the bill goes back up after the "special" pricing ends and they skyrocket the rates, I fully intend to cancel unless I am offered a deal for around $6 a month because it is not worth paying anymore then that for it. I rarely listen to Sirius, I mainly only listen Howard Stern(if my passenger is not someone who will be offended), FOX news, sometimes rock/metal stations or 80's station when I have girls in the car and that is about it aside from maybe some Holiday music but the local stations have good Holiday music too around Christmas.

I remember when Sirius first came out I paid more, think around $11.99 a month just to listen to Howard Stern when he went to Satellite radio because I was in my car much more and I liked the channel more, I could also stream over the internet for free too which I often did and could add more radio's but then they started charging extra for streaming and kept raising the prices which I never paid much attention to because I was having the monthly fee automatically taken out of a account. When I checked the fee they were taking out, it was like $22 a month and that was without streaming anymore and I was not even listening to it as much, I was furious and went to cancel and that is when they started offering the deals, I won't keep Sirius anymore unless I get that one deal. They won't even give you a decent way of just choosing the channels you want, a la cart, for a lower price, if you get the radio for the a la cart plan to choose fewer channels for a lower price it costs over $50, you need a signal booster, you can't even get Howard Stern from when I last checked, and I was only saving like 3 or 4 dollars a month at most from their overpriced rate so it was pointless.

Yup. And now, when I press them, and they tell me all they have is the 5-month / $25 promotion, I tell them to go talk to their supervisor to renew my 6-month / $25 deal, and each time, it magically appears.

The channel list is old and outdated. It seems to be from before the channels were merged on both services. Most of those channels have been canned too.

Everything is the same except for a few channels in the 100's
