Default 2017 Detroit, Toronto, and Washington, D.C. Auto Shows

For those of you planning to attend the Detroit/North American International Auto Show in January, here is the show's web-site and advance information. The show will be held from January 8-22, 2017, though the first few days, until the 10th, will be for press introductions. This is, of course, the largest auto show in the Western Hemisphere (despite the fact that the Detroit area itself is no longer the center of the industry like it once was). It usually has most of the all-new introductions and concepts, though sometimes the Los Angeles Show gets some displays beforehand.

The Washington, D.C. Auto Show tends to be somewhat smaller than the Detroit Show, but has grown substantially in recent years, from a Class B to a borderline-Class A show. It sometimes overlaps the tail end of the Detroit Show, but this time will be held from January 27 to February 5, 2017. (As with Detroit, the first day or two will likely be for the press). Those of you interested in the D.C. show can (usually) get free tickets/show passes from any local D.C. area auto dealer of any brand.....just stop in and ask for them at the sales manager's desk. In most cases, they are willing to give out at least a couple of them...they WANT you, of course, to go to the show and look at their products. Usually, local dealerships start getting the tickets about 5-7 days before the show (sometimes a little later).

Best way to get to the show, by far, is to park at a subway station garage/parking-lot (or take a bus to the station), and take the local D.C. Metro subway lines to the Mt Vernon Ave/Convention Center station on the Green/Yellow lines. (Yes, the D.C. subway system has had many problems lately, but it still beats trying to drive to the show and park downtown).

I myself, as usual, plan to attend the D.C. show again, though my knees and back are not in spring-chicken condition, and I may not be able to spend as much time there, at as many different places, as I did in the past. Typically, I go for three or four show days, for several hours each day (I get enough free tickets), sometimes taking a guest or a prospective car-shopper with me. This year, with my knees and lower-back, we'll see.

I know that some of you on Car Chat live in or near Toronto. If you can't make it to the nearby Detroit Show (at 200 miles, maybe I shouldn't say nearby LOL), the Toronto/Canadian International Show will be held from February 16-27, 2017. The Toronto show, of course, will have Canadian-spec vehicles not shown at Detroit.

Thanks. I had forgotten that the Chicago show also runs in February.

Here's the website/show info. They are claiming that it is the largest one in the country, but traditionally that has been at Detroit.

I think the Chicago show bases their claim on the largest display area (over 1 million sq. ft.) and attendance of over a million. A good way to spend the day during a cold February.
