it has to be more than just close out sales, unless they offering 10k off. Looking at previous month's it was around 13-14k regularly. Last month, 17 and this month 21k. Those are huge jumps over the course of 2 months. Maybe they found a way to supply more Highlanders as well?

Ford Total U.S. Sales Up 5 Percent in November, Retail Up 10 Percent; F-Series, SUVs and Lincoln Vehicles Drive Gains
- Ford Motor Company’s U.S. sales for November total 197,574 vehicles – up 5 percent versus a year ago – with retail sales up 10 percent and fleet sales down 9 percent
- Ford F-Series has its best November since 2001 on strong F-150 and Super Duty retail demand; total F-Series sales of 72,089 trucks is up 11 percent
- Ford brand SUV sales increase 20 percent with 60,079 vehicles sold
- Lincoln sales total 9,429 vehicles for November, representing a 19 percent increase on strong demand for its newest products, including Lincoln Continental, MKX and MKZ
Fleet sales of 43,460 vehicles, including daily rental, commercial and government segments, declined 9 percent. This reflects the company’s plan to front-load fleet sales this year.
F-Series sales increased 11 percent, totaling 72,089 trucks, the truck line’s best November sales since 2001. F-Series retail sales were up 14 percent.
“Strong retail sales increases for both F-150 and our all-new Super Duty pickups drove F-Series above the 70,000 vehicle mark – a November threshold we have not seen in 15 years,” said Mark LaNeve, vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Plus, strong consumer demand for well-equipped Super Dutys helped boost Ford’s overall average transaction prices in November, which are up $1,000 versus a year ago – well ahead of the industry average of $320.”
Ford brand SUV sales totaled 60,079 vehicles for November – a 20 percent increase. Escape was up 11 percent; Explorer grew 14 percent, Edge climbed 32 percent and Expedition gained 75 percent.
Lincoln sales increased 19 percent, with sales totaling 9,429 vehicles. Retail sales were up 20 percent. Lincoln MKZ was up 9 percent, while Lincoln MKX was up 30 percent. Lincoln’s all-new Continental had its best sales month since launch – with 1,419 cars sold.

LUXURY: Mercedes all but locks down U.S. title

Sales of the Mercedes GLC sport utility vehicle more than tripled while C-class car deliveries held steady, giving the brand a 1.1 percent increase for the month to 30,363, according to a statement today. Toyota Motor Corp. said Lexus slipped 1 percent to 29,050, and BMW AG reported an 18 percent drop to 26,189 for its namesake brand.
Mercedes is offering more SUVs and in a broader price range, said Rebecca Lindland, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book. “They have a sense of how to make them attainable without losing that sense of luxury,” which is giving Mercedes a competitive advantage, she said.
With only 1 month to go, Mercedes leads Lexus by more than 18,000 and BMW by about 28,000. A Mercedes victory for the year would recapture the crown BMW claimed in 2015 and 2014. The 2 German automakers have held the top spot in U.S. luxury sales since 2011, when BMW ended Lexus’s 11-year reign.
Through November, sales by Daimler’s brand with the 3-pointed star logo slipped 0.2 percent to 308,226. Lexus deliveries declined 4.3 percent to 290,046 and BMW’s dropped 10 percent to 280,339. The tallies exclude Daimler’s Smart cars and Mercedes work vans, as well as BMW’s Mini line, because they aren’t luxury vehicles.

so if lexus 'lost the crown' in 2011 after having it for 11 years, that means they had it for years 2000-2010. i bought my last lexus in 2000 and sold it in 2006. sadly i never went back. but i want to.
i think if the GX/LX were updated and more efficient (more like a Q7 for example) i'd be into one. the rx is too funky and the nx is too small. not interested in any of the sedans at this time, and by the sales numbers seems i'm not alone (IS/ES doing ok though).
come on lexus - step it up!!

You really got to hand it to Mercedes. The Lexus underdog story was really great in the early 2000s, but here we have the arguably the best mainstream luxury brand changing everything around over a decade and being back on top. Another great story.
