Consumer Reports notes two common problems

I would just be happy with voice recognition that works! This is my first Lexus and to say that I am disappointed with the voice recognition when trying to use the navigation system, would be an understatement! And, yes, I have completed the voice training, several times. 9 out of 10 times it is grossly wrong, not just a minor glitch but like it is listening to a conversation in a foreign land on a submarine race! I truly expected better from Lexus. Has this been a long standing issue with Lexus?

Ive never found voice recognition to work well in any car...

What luxury cars have had a touchscreen replacing radio/hvac buttons for 10 years? It has only been pretty recent, like less then 5 years or so that touchscreens have become more popular aside from maybe NAV systems using touchscreens but I am not talking about touchscreen NAV systems.
but apart from a car like a lincoln or tesla that tries to use a screen for most everything, vehicles with touch screens still have (sometimes redundant) buttons/*****/rockers as well. plus as has been pointed out before, these days loads of controls are on the steering wheel. my car allows control of audio, cruise, and climate without taking my hands off the wheel.
agreed. on my jeep it's better than some i've tried, but not good enough. the time i tried a lexus one i couldn't believe how unusable it was.

Yeah the Jeep wasn't terrible. I was in a friends X5 today and we were laughing about how terrible it was.

Apple CarPlay is here
I'm installing Apple CarPlay into my Porsche, which in 2007 they couldn't be bothered to put in a decent system in a 60k car!
At least with IOS you know Apple will continue to update CarPlay and they make a great UI.
As for transmissions, only 6 speed manual for me, and I shift into every gear every time sequentially, I find it odd someone would ever skip gears.

wow, completely wrong. my 2000 GS400 had parts of climate and radio controls ONLY through the touchscreen. so that car's 16 years old and the same system had been around for 2 years already on the LS and GS.

'play artist coldplay'
'call <name> mobile'
using voice for nav though is an exercise in frustration usually. i use the car nav with memorized locations, and i use Google by voice on my phone for new locations.

In my Lexus I basically just use Siri Eyes Free and bypass the car's voice recognition entirely. It works much better for making calls, sending texts, etc.
