Heading to the hospital to visit my dad Wednesday afternoon, I spotted this heavily disguised sedan heading down the truck lane of I-5 between Weldon Canyon and Calgrove. Not the greatest shot, but it was the best I could get while still watching brake lights in front of me. Kinda looked like the size of an Impala, but with extra ground clearance, wide tires, and distinct cut-outs for the exhaust. Also had Michigan plates. It was a she, and she exited Lyons in Stevenson Ranch, which is a bit peculiar unless she was just turning around to go back south on the 5. Mind you this was all in the year's worst traffic day for this stretch of highway.

the front wheel arches don't look typical of an audi's, although that could all be part of the heavy disguise.

i think it's too heavily disguised to make any certain conclusions, but i'd like to hear others' speculations.

My guess is the next-generation Ford Taurus (if Ford does not drop it from the American market, which I doubt because of its heavy police sales).

It looks like a current gen LS to me...except for the rear deck lid. Im going to guess some sort of Hyundai

The Taurus is a very good guess. It is indeed staying in production and due to be replaced, if what I read recently is the case.
The body here could just be a totally made up body ontop of a chassis. The flared fenders, wide wheelbase, ducktail trunk, and vertical taillights just don't really match any theme out there today.
Is it safe to conclude most test cars with Michigan plates are American companies?

i think that i've seen german sedans with michigan plates that were test mules, although not as dramatically concealed as the car in the video, driving through temecula's wine country. they may have had other out-of-state plates, though.

as an aside, infiniti had a promotional event going on in temecula's wine country and the Q60Ss that were there had tennessee dealer plates which i thought was odd. tavarish from jalopnik reviewed the cars and posted the video on youtube.

edit: nevermind re: infiniti -- not odd, they have a plant in smyrna, tennessee.

looking at it frame by frame in vlc player..., the front is flat, kinda like audi.
the mirrors... def not lexus
wheel to front door distance... def not a fwd taurus, that's for sure.
the rear door shape around the wheel well... not audi.
belt line slopes up toward the rear.... not audi

Car apes a lot of other vehicles from what we can see, I also see a lot of G90 in it. so going with Hyundai

One cannot always tell a FWD or RWD car by wheel/front door distance. I would not use that alone as a criteria.

Rear spoiler looks like a BMW M3 to me, & I have seen several BMW's in various stages of camouflage through that area so I'm guessing a BMW 3 series. BMW has a emissions research center in Oxnard CA , & so does VW who owns Audi, so might be a AUDI. If you get the plate number you can find out which manufactuer owns the plates. Many car companys have technical research centers in Detroit area.

The OP said it was about the size of an Impala. That may not rule out a larger BMW, but it would (seem) to rule out an M3....too small.
