Default Genesis G80 Sport and G80 5.0AWD announced

News from LA Auto Show.

Originally introduced earlier this year in its home market of South Korea, the 2018 Genesis G80 Sport is distinguished by a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 rated at 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque paired to a sport-tuned eight-speed automatic transmission with shift-by-wire technology. For improved ride and handling, the 2018 G80 Sport comes with a Continuous Damping Control system. The G80 Sport can be had in either rear- or all-wheel drive.Features that distinguish the G80 Sport from the 3.8 and 5.0 models are dark chrome exterior trim, copper-colored accents, carbon fiber interior trim, 19-inch dark alloy wheels, aluminum sport pedals, and leather sport seats. The G80 Sport also comes in Polar Ice and Sevilla Red, two colors that are exclusive to that trim. Standard features include a 9.2-inch touchscreen, navigation, a 360-degree camera system, dynamic bending full LED headlights, wireless phone charging, and a Lexicon premium audio system.

Genesis also announced changes for the rest of the G80 lineup for the 2018 model year, which includes the addition of all-wheel drive for models equipped with the 5.0-liter V-8. A full suite of active safety systems, including automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with start/stop function, blind spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert come standard across the G80 lineup. LED headlights with dynamic bending function and a 360-degree view camera are optional on lower trim levels.

The 5.0L/AWD combination should have been offered when the G80 first debuted as the 2Gen Hyundai Genesis. It WAS, in fact, offered in some other countries, but just not here in the U.S. Hyundai gave the excuse of American-regulation CAFEs.....strange, considering that the CAFE rules have not changed in the meantime, yet now it will be offered for 2018.

Hyundai is offering more fuel effecient models now like the Ioniq elsewhere to offset the CAFE hit though.

Jill, if you have not test-driven a G80, particularly the 5.0L version, I highly recommend it....or the 2Gen Hyundai Genesis, which is the same car. On the road, I liked it more than I did the G90, though the G90 is a little more plush inside.

This is the best looking car in executive sedan segment. Interior is last gen Lexus ES outdated but exterior is top notch.

I cant stand the interior in this car, but I like everything else. If it was not for the interior, I'd be driving one already.

This car made me go to their website and check out the G80, for 55k on a ultimate equipped 5.0, it's hell of good value. The sport shouldn't be over 60k and looks promising.
