Welcome to CL.

We can, and actually do, discuss a number of the differences between the various Lexus products (as, of course, the other automakers as well) right here in CAR CHAT. So, if there is a particular question or comment you have about any of them, you can raise it here (or start a new thread).

We also have a specific forum for maintenance/technical questions....but also, to an extent, discuss that here as well.

Thanks MMarshall.

I've always admired Lexus's and now I'm in the market for a used sedan. There are so many forums with so many different models I was hoping for a rule of thumb ...what is compact, what is mid size ..which are full size etc.

I found that at wikipedia ....Hope it is okay to share here. I'll add it on to the end of this post. If that is not allowed mods please remove. I don't want to start out on the wrong foot.
Anyway I am shopping around. I drove an 06 GS 350 today. Nice car. It was AWD, had 204k on it and had hail damage and lots of scratches. No wonder it was priced at 6500. Pics looked great but up close it was pretty bad. But even with 204k on the clock if not for the hail damage and scratches I would have seriously considered this one.
I'm also looking a LS 430. I've heard great things about this model being rock solid and a great car that can be picked up for under 10k.
I wonder about the ES base model. I see a few of them in my price range. Are they the cheapest Lexus in the mid size catagory? They seem bigger in pics but the list I found said it is a mid size.
Any tips sure appreciated.Model year introductions

Obviously I can't talk about all those models in just one post, but since you you specifically mentioned the LS430. I've always had a very high opinion of that car, and considered it one of the best overall products Lexus ever built.

You also mentioned an 06 GS350 AWD. I'd avoid that particular model. Consumer Reports tagged the older, 3rd-generation GS AWD models as one of the very rare Lexus models to have worse-than-average reliability...not the case with the RWD models. Of course, with much of that long list you provided, they are old vehicles, where reliability could end up being an issue anyway.
