I was considering buying a Mercedes C230, BMW 330CI, and Subaru WRX before I got my SC300 back in the day.

I considered the Mercedes S600, CLS550, and SL500 before buying my LS430.

The list is pretty accurate. I've looked at Range Rovers before but heard too much bad stuff about them.

I'll take 2017 KIA Cadenza if I didn't buy Lexus.

I've got a review-request for a new 2017 Cadenza. I'm going to check one out as soon as samples become available here in the D.C. area....Kia has not released them yet.

Some shoppers are still avoiding Audi because of the diesel scandal.

I agree. the Subaru does seem a bit out of place on this list.

What about the most obvious choice -- Toyota?

Well, I had a Lexus and I traded it for an Audi, so I guess that is the car I bought instead of a Lexus.

Subies, though, seem to appeal to a very wide range of incomes, classes, and social-status....including a number of who could afford vehicles in the Lexus class. I've seen four-star generals in the military, for instance, and people high on the corporate ladder, driving older Outbacks and Foresters.

There are also so many upmarket/premium vehicle-brands available today that one could also consider more than just 5 of them.
