Default 2014 Mercedes Benz S550 or 2014 BMW 750?

2014 Mercedes Benz S550 w/ 50,000 miles or 2014 BMW 750 w/ 50,000 miles.

And which car do you think would last to 100,000 miles with least number of problems?
For obvious reasons, the LS is not an option in this case.

Probably about an equal chance on both, although if problems DO occur, M-B parts and service can be even more expensive than BMW....which is saying something.

Why is the LS not an option? The reason is not obvious to me.

The LS can easily last to 100,000 miles with the least number of problems, if none at all. Which is why I excluded it.

S550 is a much nicer vehicle IMO.

I'd take the 750 simply because I can't stand basically any Mercedes anymore.

As for mechanical issues, I wouldn't trust either....it would have to be a CPO'd car.

Both will have their own set of issues - just set aside $10k and consider it part of purchase price.

For me its really a personal choice as the cars each have different personas.
750i would be the more sport oriented of the 2.

I would take the 7 series as I strongly dislike the S class styling.

No doubt S550, I had same 750i, and when parked next to my friend's S550, it look like a Camry.

as much as I loved my 7, the new S is just so much nicer. It's a no brainer

The W222 made the F01 look 10 years old when it was released...much better car without question.

Not sure about MB's reliability, but the N63 engine in the BMW is a total pluck up. And if anything, the Merc should be a much better drive.

The facelift 13+ 750 engine has been fixed.

My first 2011 750Li with 20k miles, had 9 repairs in one year which total more than 18k, so when 13' was released, I immediate changed to one, and 3 years after 20k miles, there wasn't a single problem, not even additional oil which my old one asked more than 5 quarts in 10k miles lol.

Sonderklasse every time, maybe unless it's an E39 with the style 37 wheels

now that's some brand loyalty right there!

The thing with Germans is, you can buy one and have almost no major issues or on the other hand it can be a nightmare. It's like playing a lotto.
I some have friends who praise their BMW's and others hate them for all the little problems.

I honestly would say they'd be about the same. I'd pick the Benz though simply because it's a newer body style with next-generation infotainment, safety systems, styling, etc. The 7-series is tuned to be a bit more athletic when in its sportiest trim if that's what one's after, although I do not like the throttle lag that's baked in. Mercedes has a dead spot in their accelerator (as they always have) but doesn't cause a jumpy throttle application like the BMW lag.

The 2014 models have the N63tu, which is fine. Benz drivetrain has been solid from the start.
