DEARBORN, Mich., Oct 3, 2016 – Ford Transit vans U.S. sales grew 6 percent last month with 10,799 vans sold. Overall Ford U.S. September sales totaled 204,447 vehicles, an 8 percent decline versus a year ago.

Retail sales declined 4 percent in September, with 162,327 vehicles sold for the month. Fleet sales of 42,120 vehicles, including daily rental, commercial and government segments, were down 21 percent, consistent with the company’s plan to front-load fleet sales this year. Sales to daily rental companies declined 36 percent for the month.

“We continue seeing strong customer demand, especially for vans and pickup trucks, including our all-new Super Duty,” said Mark LaNeve, Ford vice president, U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service. “Demand for a rich mix of our all-new Super Duty pickups helped boost Ford’s average transaction prices by $1,100 versus a year ago, outpacing the industry’s $400 average.”

September marked 2016’s best month for F-Series’ retail sales. Ford F-Series sales totaled 67,809 vehicles, a 3 percent decline.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported robust September sales of 133,655 Honda and Acura vehicles, a 0.1 percent decrease from September 2015. American Honda trucks set a new September record, gaining 8.5 percent on sales of 69,069 units. The Honda Division also set a new September mark, gaining 1.5 percent on total sales of 120,842 units, with Honda trucks additionally setting a new September record, rising 8.6 percent on sales of 60,220 vehicles. Acura trucks shared the record bounty as well, with an increase of 8.4 percent on sales of 8,849 units for a new September milestone.

Honda
Honda cars continued to dominate the retail market in September while Honda trucks set new sales records. The red-hot CR-V reached new heights and the new Ridgeline added still more strength for the Honda brand.
  • Honda Division sales reach new September milestone, gaining 1.5 percent on total sales of 120,842 cars and trucks.
  • Honda trucks set a new September record with an 8.6 percent gain on sales of 60,220 units.

"The expanding 10th generation Civic roster brings new energy to the car side of our business even as our trucks continue with steady gains."

Acura
Truck sales led the way for the Acura brand with a new September record, and sales of the RDX reached a best-ever September as well. The refreshed MDX also performed strongly, with sales gaining 14.3 percent for the month as its new design continues to gain favor with buyers. TLX continues to strengthen its position and share in the challenging mid-size luxury sedan segment.
  • RDX notched its best September ever, gaining 1.8 percent on sales of 3,919.
  • With the MDX gaining significant market strength, Acura trucks sales increased 8.4 percent overall in September, with 8,849 units sold and a new record for the month.

GM U.S. Retail Sales Outperform the Industry on Strong Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac Retail Gains



  • GM retail share up 0.3 percentage points and up 15 of past 18 months
  • Chevrolet sales up 1 percent; remains the fastest growing full-line brand
  • Buick and Cadillac sales up 7 percent and 5 percent, respectively
  • GMC posted second highest monthly ATPs in brand’s history
DETROIT – General Motors (NYSE: GM) sold 204,449 vehicles to individual or “retail” customers in the U.S. in September. Chevrolet’s retail sales in September grew 1 percent, while Buick and Cadillac retail sales also rose 7 percent and 5 percent, respectively.

Based on initial estimates, GM’s retail market share rose 0.3 percentage points in September to 16.6 percent, the largest retail share gain of any full-line manufacturer. GM has gained retail market share in 15 of the past 18 months, dating to April 2015.Chevrolet gained 0.3 percentage points of retail share in September to 11 percent.

Chevrolet has gained retail market share in 8 out of 9 months this year, and remains the industry’s fastest-growing full-line brand. Buick gained 0.1 percentage points of retail share. In addition, Cadillac grew retail share by 0.1 percentage points, driven largely by the success of the all-new XT5. GMC sales gained momentum through the month and the brand posted its second highest monthly average transaction price or ATP in the brand’s history at $44,144.


GM’s total sales in September were down slightly year over year at 249,795 vehicles.


Through the 1st 9 months of the year, GM retail sales are up nearly 1 percent, compared to last year. GM has gained 0.5 percentage points of retail share during that timeframe, which is the largest retail share gain of any full-line automaker. Year to date, Chevrolet retail sales are up 2 percent and the brand’s retail share has grown 0.4 percentage points to 11.1 percent. Year to date, Buick retail deliveries have grown more than 3 percent and Buick has gained 0.1 percentage points of retail share.

“GM again outperformed the retail industry and gained profitable market share. We continue to lead the retail truck industry and gained share in the 2 largest car segments,” said Kurt McNeil, GM’s vice president of U.S. sales operations. “We are achieving these results while maintaining disciplined incentive spending and commanding the industry’s best average transaction prices for any full-line manufacturer.”

GM’s ATPs, which reflect retail transaction prices after sales incentives, were $35,804 in September, nearly $5,000 above the industry average and approximately $1,000 above last September’s performance.

GM continues to benefit from a strong U.S. economy.

“Key economic fundamentals like a strong jobs market, rising personal incomes, low fuel prices and low interest rates continue to point toward strong industry performance,” said Mustafa Mohatarem, GM’s chief economist. “We think the industry is well positioned for a continued high level of customer demand into the foreseeable future.”

  • According to plan, daily rental sales were about 12 percent of GM’s total sales in September and are less than 10 percent year to date
  • Malibu commercial sales were up 136 percent versus last September and up 9 percent year to date
Industry Sales
  • GM estimates that the seasonally adjusted annual selling rate (SAAR) for light vehicles in September was approximately 17.8 million units. On a calendar year-to-date basis, GM estimates the light-vehicle SAAR was 17.4 million units

FCA US Reports September 2016 U.S. Sales

  • Ram Truck brand sales increased 27 percent; pickup truck sales up 29 percent
  • Sales of all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan increased 23 percent versus previous month of August
  • Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger each recorded double-digit percentage gains in September
October 3, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC today reported U.S. sales of 192,883 units, a 1 percent decrease compared with sales in September 2015 (194,666 units).

FCA US retail sales were 146,453 units in September, while fleet sales were 46,430 units. Retail sales represented 76 percent of total sales, while fleet sales were 24 percent.

The Ram Truck brand posted a 27 percent sales gain in September compared with the same month a year ago as pickup truck sales increased 29 percent year over year. Both the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger turned in double-digit percentage increases in September while the Jeep® Grand Cherokee – the most awarded SUV ever – posted an 18 percent sales gain.

Sales of the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan increased 23 percent in September, versus sales in the previous month of August. Sales of the all-new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider, the latest addition to the FIAT brand product lineup, were up 7 percent in September, compared with the previous month of August.

Ram Truck Brand
Ram Truck brand sales, which include the Ram pickup, Ram ProMaster and Ram ProMaster City, were up 27 percent in September versus the same month a year ago. The brand’s increase was driven by the strong 29 percent increase in Ram pickup truck sales. The Ram 1500 Rebel was named “Best Pickup Truck” at the 2016 Ruedas ESPN Awards at last month’s Miami International Auto Show. For 2017, Ram will introduce a new special-edition Night package for the 1500 model that gives truck enthusiasts straight-from-the-factory customized looks. In addition, Ram ProMaster sales are up 17 percent year over year. Ram Truck brand sales are up 11 percent calendar year to date, compared with the same nine months in 2015.

Jeep Brand
Jeep brand sales were down 3 percent in September compared with the same month a year ago. The Jeep Grand Cherokee – the vehicle that has long defined what a premium SUV should be – posted an 18 percent sales gain in September, compared with the same month in 2015. In addition, Jeep Patriot sales were up a strong 33 percent versus September a year ago. Jeep brand sales are up 12 percent calendar year to date, compared with the first three quarters of 2015.

Dodge Brand
Dodge brand sales were down 6 percent in September compared with the same month a year ago. But, the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger each posted year-over-year sales gains in September. Charger sales were up 35 percent, while the Challenger turned in a 19 percent sales gain in the month. In addition, the Dodge Journey crossover recorded a 6 percent year-over-year increase. Dodge brand sales are up 2 percent calendar year to date compared with the first nine months in 2015.

Chrysler Brand
Chrysler brand sales were down 27 percent in September versus the same month in 2015. The all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan posted 9,172 units in sales in September, up 23 percent compared with the previous month of August. Launched in April this year, the Pacifica just earned a rating of
Top Safety Pick+ for 2016 from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Pacifica achieved a “good” rating – the highest possible score – in each of five tests used by IIHS to evaluate crashworthiness. The Pacifica also earned the 2016 “Vehicle of the Year” and “Best Minivan” awards at the Ruedas ESPN Awards presented in September as part of the Miami International Auto Show.

FIAT Brand
FIAT brand sales, which include the Fiat 500, Fiat 500L, Fiat 500X and Fiat 124 Spider, were down 30 percent in September. In its third month on sale, the all-new 2017 Fiat 124 Spider logged 490 units in sales in September, up 7 percent versus the previous month of August. The Spider earned a “Best Convertible” award last month in the 2016 Ruedas ESPN Awards at the Miami International Auto Show.

Cherry Hill, N.J. - Subaru of America, Inc. today reported 54,918 vehicle sales for September 2016, a 3.5 percent increase over September 2015 sales of 53,070. The company also reported year-to-date sales of 446,887 vehicles, a 4.2 percent gain over the same period in 2015.
September marked the 31st consecutive month of 40,000+ vehicle sales for the company. Outback and Crosstrek sales were notably strong as each carline achieved its best September ever. Outback posted a 12.2 percent increase, Crosstrek posted a 11.4 percent increase, while Forester posted a 3.4 percent sales increase in September.

“With September sales exceeding 50,000 vehicles for the third month in a row, Subaru is in a great position to achieve its eighth consecutive all-time sales record in 2016,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and COO of Subaru of America, Inc. “These results have been achieved thanks to the hard work and dedication of our retailers, as well as our stakeholders.”

TORRANCE, Calif. (October 3, 2016) – Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., today reported September 2016 sales of 197,260 units, an increase of 1.5 percent from September 2015 on a volume basis. With the same amount of selling days in September 2016 compared to September 2015, sales were up 1.5 percent on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis.

Toyota Division posted September sales of 171,459 units, up 1.4 percent on a volume basis and DSR basis.

“Industry sales in 2016 remain in line with last year’s record levels,” said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota division. “Toyota outpaced the industry to be the no.1 retail brand in September, led by Camry, RAV4, and Corolla, and the fourth quarter outlook is strong thanks to our best light truck supply of the year.”

Lexus posted September sales of 25,801 units, up 2 percent on a volume basis and DSR basis.

“Lexus continued to see its best-ever year-to-date sales performance from our LUV line up, with the NX up almost 52 percent and the LX more than doubling its volume, all which helped the brand to a best-ever September LUV month,” said Jeff Bracken, Lexus division group vice president and general manager. “Lexus is traditionally strong in the fourth quarter, and thanks to improved availability, we expect this record pace to continue through the final quarter.”

BMW Group U.S. Reports September 2016 Sales



  • BMW brand sales decrease 4.6 percent
  • MINI brand sales decrease 8.8 percent
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 3, 2016… Sales of BMW brand vehicles decreased 4.6 percent in September for a total of 25,389 compared to 26,608 vehicles sold in September, 2015. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is down 7.9 percent in the U.S. on sales of 230,133 vehicles compared to 249,956 sold in the 1st 9 months of 2015.

Notable vehicle sales in September include the BMW 7 Series which increased to 1,201 cars, the BMW X1 which increased to 2,463 vehicles, and the BMW X3 which increased to 3,829 vehicles.

“Once again, our Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs) are leading the way, accounting for 44% of BMW September sales, the second month in a row for such a percentage,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “At the same time, I am also pleased to see demand for our flagship 7 Series continuing to increase with solid numbers over a year ago.”

BMW Group Sales
In total, the BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported September sales of 29,413 vehicles, a decrease of 5.2 percent from the 31,022 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, BMW Group sales are down 8.8 percent on sales of 269,044 vehicles in the first nine months of 2016 compared to 294,930 in the same period in 2015.

MINI Brand Sales
For September, MINI USA reported 4,024 automobiles sold, a decrease of 8.8 percent from the 4,414 sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI USA reported a total of 38,911 automobiles sold, a decrease of 13.5 percent from 44,974 automobiles sold in the 1st 9 months of 2015.


BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles
  • September 2016 sales of BMW Certified Pre-Owned set a record with 11,178 vehicles, an increase of 28.5 percent from September 2015.
  • Total BMW Pre-Owned sales also set a record with 22,809 vehicles, an increase of 61.6 percent from September 2015.
  • Total BMW Pre-Owned cars sold year-to-date were 168,735, a 22 percent increase from the 1st 9 months of 2015.
MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles
  • In September, sales of MINI Certified Pre-Owned set a record with 925 vehicles, an increase of 2.3 percent from September 2015.
  • Total MINI Pre-Owned sales also set a record with 2,234 vehicles in September 2016, an increase of 4.4 percent from September 2015.
  • Total MINI Pre-Owned sales year-to-date were 21,303, a 4.7 percent increase from the 1st 9 months of 2015.

IRVINE, Calif., October 3, 2016 – With 49,220 units sold last month – including best-ever September performances by the Forte family of compact cars and the Sportage CUV – Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced the highest sales total through the first three quarters in company history. Year-to-date sales are up 3.3 percent as demand for the Sportage, Kia’s longest-running nameplate in the U.S, has surged to new heights.

“On the strength of double digit gains for the Rio, Forte, Sportage and Sedona nameplates through the first nine months of the year, Kia’s upward trajectory continues despite the industry showing signs of little growth,” said Michael Sprague, chief operating officer and EVP, KMA.

ROCKLEIGH, N.J. (Oct. 3, 2016) - Volvo Car USA, LLC, (VCUSA) reported U.S. sales of 5,615 vehicles, a 1.6 percent increase versus September 2015. Year-to-date sales are up 26.2 percent year-over-year.

Sales for the month of September were led by the award-winning XC90 luxury SUV with 2,465 vehicles sold. The XC60 followed in the second spot with 1,157 vehicles sold.

“September was another successful month for Volvo in the US with the fifteenth month of consecutive sales growth, said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO, Volvo Car USA. “The XC90 continues to be our best seller with another month of strong performance.”

Volvo is implementing a sweeping $11 billion transformation plan that has involved the development of its own modular vehicle architecture, a new engine range, global manufacturing capability, a completely renewed product range and world leading developments in safety, autonomous driving and connectivity.

Mercedes-Benz USA Closes Out 3rd Quarter With Record September Sales

ATLANTA, Oct. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported best-ever September sales of 29,500 vehicles, increasing 1.7% from the 29,020 vehicles sold during the same month last year. Mercedes-Benz Vans also reported best-ever September sales with 2,970 units, up 28.2% and smart reported 605 units, bringing MBUSA grand total to 33,075 vehicles for the month, up 3.1% from last year. On a year-to-date basis, Mercedes-Benz retails totaled 249,204. Adding year-to-date-sales of 25,156 for Vans and 4,044 for smart, MBUSA posted a grand total of 278,404 units in September, increasing 1.0% from the previous year."

Record 3rd quarter results were fueled by several best-ever months," said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA. "We expect this momentum to carry us into the final quarter, with continued strong performance in SUVs and dream cars."


Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in September included the C-Class, GLC and E-Class (including the CLS) model lines. The C-Class took the lead at 6,600, followed by the GLC at 4,873. The E-Class, rounded out the top 3 with 4,824 units sold.

Mercedes-AMG high-performance models sold 1,511 units in September, with a total of 15,642 units sold year-to-date (up 53.1 %).

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 9,598 vehicles in September, a decrease of -15.8% from last year (11,397). On a year-to-date basis, MBCPO sold 92,234 vehicles, an increase of 2.8%.
