Just saying, I'd buy a new 2017 Tacoma SR5 4wd, Access Cab, V6, Manual 6 speed transmission. I am all for the manual on the new Tacoma, because my old man ordered that exact truck but 2wd with the automatic/V6, and I must say the computer programming on the transmission just sucks. That is a rather high winding V6, but he trans always shifts short to preserve fuel economy, thus making that V6 feels like it has no *****. I mean my 1992 SC300/5 speed manual with 225hp would just straight run circles around his new truck and that car isn't even that fast. I'm thinking that V6 is a powerhouse, if you shift it like you want to shift it.

I swear to god automatic transmissions were almost making manual transmissions obsolete with their improved efficiencies in most applications. But then I realized that in some applications, that extra spread of ratios combined with stupid transmission controls that constantly upshift to get better EPA numbers gives you a feeling of less power.

I've driven that same V6 Tacoma with a manual transmission, and I swear it feels like a different truck. Granted the power is at higher rpm, but with the manual trans it doesn't constantly second guess you and shift up for the sake of fuel economy.

Getting back on point, for 33k I'd buy a Toyota Tacoma. If I had to buy a sedan, it would be a loaded V6 Accord touring.

I want to wait and see what the next-generation base-level Lexus ES350, Lincoln MKZ, and Buick LaCrosse are like before making a statement. 33K, with discounts/rebates, might, though not likely, buy a base-level one without options, but we'll have to wait and see. I also might (?) lease my next car...haven't decided yet. Among present vehicles, the Kia Cadenza starts at 33K....IMO, a good value for the money.

If I HAD to buy new, it would be a toss up between an Audi A3 1.8 w/ the entertainment package, or a Mustang Ecoboost Premium. I'm a young single guy so I don't care much for practicality.

Ditto. I leased a base Accord for my cousin for $24k and it has things like auto A/C, blind spot mirrors and Pandora capability that were unheard of in the past for this price point. I also drove the Accord Touring, and when you add the V6, blind spot cameras, Apple Carplay, leather seats, etc. it is quite a nice car for the money. That would be my pick as well.

Toyota Highlander V6 AWD. Very nice design, capable, enough space for my bicycle and tools, can haul a bunch of people with equipment comfortably for long distances.

I own a 2005 Highlander 2WD V6 at the moment and this car has not let me down once. (given I keep up the regular maintenance, beefier brakes etc etc)
