Even from door dings, cars are all shapes and sizes. One two inch strip won't protect from cars with doors with higher edges which don't line up along that strip...
Yes...that pretty much a given. That's why I said, earlier, that the strips have only limited protection. But, IMO, it's better than nothing.

It's like walking around wearing elbow pads all the time. Yeah...you won't hurt your elbows, but you can hurt everything else and you sure look silly.

Always have moldings without question. I have the dent and ding pkg as well and covers curb rash on my wheels...Especially the ES 350, it breaks up the bland looking sides..

As an example just now, parked next to a car with door moldings in a normal spot. As you can see, if I had opened my doors into his doors his moldings would have offered zero protection

I'll take an extra pair of knee pads, though, if you have them, though. Once is enough. LOL.

Well of course , you cant protect the door from all vehicles like ones that are taller.. But a normal sized car, yes it hits that molding.. If the molding gets dinged so bad, I get new molding...I park way out so folks dont park by me most of the time, Im 70 yrs old and dont mind walking..I park next to a shopping cart return, that way. only one side has the possibility of getting dinged.

This is an E Class and an LS460 lol, the vehicles are the same height.

Replacing the molding costs the same as PDR, that's my point.

If you like them then get them because you like them, but don't expect that they're offering you any protection.

Well they do offer protection... I had several dings in the moldings over the years, that would have been in the door had they not been there. So I guess i have to agree to disagree.

But your moldings were dinged and damaged instead of the door, damage all the same that requires repair if you want the car kept perfect. I would be just as bothered by an ugly ding in my molding as I would one in my door.

Its like my clear bra. I have a clear bra, and I would get it again, but I'm bothered by nicks in it same as I would be nicks in my paint, so I'm still careful about following distances, etc. The clearbra is invisible, but if it clouded the paint or something like the old ones did I would make the same argument against them I make against the moldings.

That I just don't understand at all. Why does a ding in one part of your car bother you but not in another part? If you're never going to remove and replace the molding then its as much a part of your car and its appearance as the door, why not just live with a ding in the door? The car is damaged either way.

Do you care about damage to your bumpers? They're there to bump things with after all...
