My wife has a 2014 Civic EX-L. Its a nice car, and comfortable, but I will never get one for $6,000. I had a 2006 Civic EX, and I loved it, I should have never sold it, if I had kept it, I wouldn't be looking for a 3rd car now.

Just checked Autotrader and saw 6 for sale within 50 miles of Van Alstyne.

Kind of an oddball here, but what about a 2005-2007 Toyota Highlander hybrid???? I know its not a sedan, but tons of room, a more upright seating position and easier entry/egress might be better on your back. That's about the only SUV I can think of that is going to meet your price point(might blow your budget by 2-3k) and get good gas mileage(I think its rated around 28mpg).

Its for business. I have put 58,000 miles on my truck in 18 months since I bought it, mostly because I have been driving it around north Texas for business. That needs to stop. I need to be able to put 3,000-5,500 miles a month, on. It needs to be fuel efficient (25mpg+ hwy), comfortable, mid size at least, sedan, and reliable. On the list I have:
95-02 Lexus LS
98-05 Lexus ES (top of the list, but hard to find in decent shape for the price range I want)
00-05 Toyota Camry
00-08 Toyota Avalon
06-10 Honda Civic EX
01-10 Honda Accord EX
thoughts? Any others I should add to the mix?

I would go with the Avalon or LS.
If you're a bigger guy and need a car with some size to it, I would cross the other vehicles off the list. Plus you get teh luxury and ride comfort with these that you will never find in a camry or civic.
Lots of highway driving, either should net you 25mpg + from my experience.

I would consider the LS only because you're capable and willing to work on it yourself. Very well built, reliable cars but they're expensive to maintain and repair if you need to pay somebody.
You'd be in a nice 98-00 LS400 for that money, thats what I would get.
Sit in them first though. They actually don't have the greatest headroom...

Im short so headroom doesn't matter much...but...
Took a trip today to houston in the wifes 14 civic as an experiment. Hit my head on the visor repeatedly. Had to shift in my seat a lot, not as comfortable as i thought.
Im ok with mileage over 100k if the car is right.
As of now the list has shortened because the civic i am no longer considering a viable option at this point. Im gonna go drive a few cars.

The G35 was built quite well (back in the days before Infiniti's quality reutation began to suffer)....but the G35's interior of that vintage was not impressive for its class, and was basically that of a Nissan. The instrument panel lights, from my memory, were also an odd yellow/orange color. Its ride is a little on the firm side, if that will be an issue with your back, but not as stiff as some more hard-edged sport sedans.
