I agree with many of the comments in this thread about the odd exterior styling but the power is hard to beat in the new Camaro. Maybe GM was hoping the 6th Gen would sell like the 5th Gen did. The thing with the 5th Gen was it was the first Camaro to come out after they quit making them for a while. A ton of folks bought them and are happy with what they have. I for one pick up a 2010 SS M6 LS3 and absolutely love it. Thing is, my Camaro is now paid off and I've done quite a bit of modifications to it to suit my liking. I test drove a new SS about a month ago and it is a nice car. The interior is much better than mine but the rear end kind of reminds me of a Hyundai.
I sat down with a friend of mine who works at a local Chevy dealership and built a 2017 2SS and I almost choked when I saw the price, $49,200. I just can't justify spending that much when my 2010 gets me down the road and still turns heads. I track the car at the drag strip and local SCCA events and the car does great. For now I'm going to sit tight and continue to enjoy my 2010.

^ Good point on the 5th gen having a lot of pent up demand, one of the reasons they sold so well.
And I think you make a good point about somebody who already owns a 5th gen. Chevy didn't change enough stuff to really make you want a 6th gen. Yeah the 6th gen is lighter, they fixed the ugly dashboard, it handles a bit better, it is marginally faster, but they're just incremental improvements and the styling stayed pretty much the same. Then you get the sticker shock and voila, lots of people are keeping their 5th gen because its pretty damn awesome when you consider the new car is $50,000 and you get the same performance/look in the old car.
It wasn't like when the Mustang in 2011 went from the 4.6 V8 with 315hp to the 5.0 V8 with 415hp, and the V6 model had a new engine with 305hp and was almost as fast as the previous year's V8. Or the 2015 Mustang which had fresh sheetmetal, vastly improved chassis with better handling, and a vastly improved interior, those Mustangs gave you a compelling reason to trade in your old Mustang IMO.

I like seeing a Challenger on the road because it has aged well, but I still don't get why people buy them. They are heavy and the driving dynamics leave a lot to be desired. 0-60 times, yes, but that is not all there is in life... especially in daily commutes. I guess they have a decent back seat and the trunk must be pretty large.

Most likely, aging Baby-Boomers (yeah, like me LOL) who went to high school or college with the original Challenger. Except for its current four-spoke steering wheel and lack of wood-trim inside, today's Challenger is more of a true retro-design than either the Mustang or Camaro. They even use some of the same 1970-71 lollipop-pastel colors.
