i have a 2014 is 250, and no matter how much hate that engine garners, it is the smoothest and most refined v6 i have ever driven. in fact, it's the smoothest, most refined engine period that i have ever driven and thus, i vote v6 all the way.

Agreed, the only thing I can think of with inline 5 engines are some VW and Audi products, along with some crap transversely mounted FWD Volvos(850 maybe???), old *** and slow 240D Benzes, and the new Ford Transit van has a 5 cylinder turbo diesel option. 3 cylinder engines, lets hear it for fans of the Geo Metro and the new base model Ford Festiva!!!!
I will admit some oversight as there are some cool *** flat 4 and flat six engines out there. I really love the hopped up VW air cooled flat fours, as in you took something stock that made 50hp and now it makes 150hp and is still driveable and reliable, plus they sound cool

I thought of the 3-cylinder after making my previous post. My very next thought was that I want nothing to do with an Inline 3 that's not made by Triumph and mounted in a 2-wheeled chassis. Ironically theirs is about the same displacement (955-1050 cc) as the one in the Metro (1L), but makes almost three times as much power and has to carry around less than a quarter of the weight.

I dont know how they are today, but the Audi 2.3 inline 5 was a fantastic engine back in the 70 and 80´ties. At least compared to the 4 cyl crap every other Euro car had back then, but also compared to many boring V6 engines. I had both the N/A and the Turbo version and the sound and the driveability was outstanding. The turbo was also very easy to tune up to about 300 hp without any internal changes required.

If the car is light enough & you like handling over brute torque, I like the Porsche watercooled flat -6. Especially after internal enlargement. More info here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/car...estigated.html

I still vote V8 though, love my V8, when I test drove a new GS350 it felt lethargic and not very refined, felt like it was only making 270hp or so and not 311, nowhere near as smooth and effortless as even the 4.3 V8 in my GS. I might get a used LS460 instead just for the V8 power/torque after test driving the GS350. I would say V10 and V12 are up there but they are all unfortunately gas guzzlers and in mostly unreliable vehicles so they don't make for good long term daily driven ownership. I also like I6's and flat 6's, Honda J series is a excellent V6 especially for only being SOHC, only 4 cyl I like are Honda 4cylinders.
