Trying to decide between a 2007 Lexus LS 460 and a 2013 Lexus ES 350. I can get either used for around $20k
LS460 - Pros, higher trim level/more luxury, Con -premium gas and slightly higher mileage
ES350 - Pros, newer technology, reg gas, Con -not the same level of luxury as LS

Anything I'm missing, thoughts? If it was your 20k with your experience, which would you choose?

The biggest con would be the age difference of 6 years. How many miles on each and what trim levels?

let's assume base for both.....ES 25k-40k miles....LS 55k-75k miles...not as worried about miles because I'll probably sell either at 100k-150k.

The biggest "apples and acorns" comparison is the 6 year technology difference. The LS will be more of a reliability headache, due to its age, too. Oh, and the 2013 ES is based on the Avalon.

If buying a LS I would buy one that is not the first year model (reliable though it may be). I would spend a little more and get an AWD model.

Miles are the other concern. I came out of an 04 with 130k miles into a 2013 with 28k. I bought the ES with almost 70k miles in 2009, while it has been an excellent car this time I knew I wanted something with fewer miles.

IMO The ES (each generation) is much nicer than a Camry - everything you see and touch is of a higher quality, and there is better styling, more insulation, a better stereo, etc.

I think the LS is the better car, but maybe not the better value. 2007, that's 10 years old now. If its low mile and been maintained, it should give you many more years of trouble free service.

If you're going for a 2013 or newer ES, that does get you one with the new looking dashboard that looks like all the other new 2016 Lexus models. The 2007 LS has the last generation dash layout, which isn't my favorite design, but it is built to a higher standard than the ES. That's the thing about the LS, the whole car is built to a higher standard and has a much more solid feel to it.

obviously LS is 6 years older, but otherwise if you are willing to deal with that, it is much better vehicle... technology differences are minimal and LS is going to have a lot more features.

The newer ES350 is the better choice.

As an owner of a 2007 LS it is a night and day difference. Not even the same league. Go drive them both and you'll see instantly which one you want.

The LS has a V8 and you don't need AWD. I live in Ma and drove the LS through the worst winters we have seen. The RWD is great in the snow. Traction control works its magic and I never had an issue.

Look at there service history of whichever car you buy and have it checked out by an independent inspection. But drive them first. That should solve any questions about which one.
