Or, instead of an out-and-out conversion, are you proposing that the existing Escalade platform be kept, and a smaller, FWD/AWD Cadillac version of the Traverse (called the Escalade Sport) simply be marketed next to it? That, IMO, would probably be a good idea, except for one thing.......Cadillac's upcoming mid-size XT5, though a slightly smaller size, might overlap it some.

There would be some size overlap with the standard Escalade but like with the RR vs. RRS, there would be a noticeable difference in attitude that makes it a moot point.

Wonder what the reaction to this will be at Lincoln? They've already introduced two all-new crossover SUVs in the last two years......the compact MKC (a favorite of mine, BTW, though it is not without its faults), the mid-size MKX, and the upcoming new Continental flagship sedan. Lincoln currently doesn't have any plans for a larger-than-MKX design that would compete with the XT7 and fit in between the MKX and the big Navigator...unless they are just keeping it a corporate secret. But, Lincoln is still trying to get back on their feet after years of poor sales...perhaps they have a limited budget or don't want to work on too many projects at once, until a definite sales-base is established for it.

Must be a lot going on at Cadillac. The new CT6 sedan flagship this spring, the XT5 mid-sized SUV later this year, this XT7, and, of course, the compact-sized CUV late next year that will (presumably) be the XT3. The XT3 designation is only a guess on my part, though, that has not been confirmed....but it would seem the most logical name.
A wise shopper, though, IMO, will look past the badge or nameplate to see what is actually underneath. Although we don't know (yet) what the interior will look like on the new version, the existing Buick Enclave, for instance, has a more-plush and ornate interior than a number of Cadillacs.
Spy shooters caught it testing with the new Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave,
Simply affixing the Cadillac badge on the front adds thousands of dollars to the sticker compared to a Chevy or Buick product.
