it looks great but i don't believe it will sell. besides looks there's no benefit of this over the xc90. station wagons are so last century. even europe is going nuts for cuvs/suvs now.

I saw an article somewhere saying this car might sell well in Vermont and Colorado.
I like wagons compared to SUVs. I like being closer to the ground. True, it will have to compete against CUVs. I guess it is now a niche market to have a wagon. It be nice to see the Polestar blue on the V90.
It will be interesting to compare this model to the most expensive Subaru. Price point wise, the Volvo will be most expensive. Both are equally safe.

Wagons do offer one huge advantage over SUV's, its much easier to use the roof rack. Hipster buddy of mine who is huge into mountain biking bought an old Roadmaster wagon a few years ago just for that reason, it was way easier to put bikes on the roof(and I'm sure the fake wood gives him extra street cred).

Till will sell a lot better than XC90 in Europe. XC90 is clearly made for other markets while this is more like a normal family car. It will be cheaper, faster, have better handling and be a lot easier to drive around the typical city core of many euro towns that are built like 500-1000 years ago with many narrow streets. The XC 90 is out of question here.

Cars like this Volvo wagon, you can get them for a lot cheaper in Europe, because most of them will have cloth seats, manual transmission, and a diesel engine. Benz, Volvo, BMW, Audi, they only sell the more premium trim versions of their cars in the US, in Europe the smaller engine versions with no options are priced just a bit more than an Opel or Renault of similar spec.

Volvo Cars reveals stylish and versatile new V90 wagon
The eagerly-awaited Volvo V90 was revealed today in Stockholm, Sweden. The stylish and versatile V90 is the latest in the luxury car maker’s top-of-the-line 90 series sitting alongside the award winning XC90 SUV and the recently-launched S90 luxury sedan.
Building on Volvo Cars’ indisputable heritage in the wagon segment, that began over 60 years ago with the Volvo Duett, the new V90 takes the luxury wagon a clear step forward in terms of aesthetics, materials and finish, while living up to the ultimately practical nature of any true wagon.
“We have a very strong position in the wagon segment,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. “In many people’s minds we are known as the definitive wagon brand. While the Volvo brand today stands for more than wagons, we are proud to carry forward this rich heritage with the V90.”
The new V90 is the third car unveiled in Volvo’s top-of-the-line 90 series, all of which are built on the company’s specially-designed and fully modular Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which has opened up a range of new opportunities in terms of how Volvos can be designed, built and equipped.
“The modern luxury wagon is all about the intriguing combination of a luxurious experience with the functional origins of the wagon silhouette. The sophisticated ambience of our new Volvo Interiors is combined with a great cargo space, providing the right kind of functionality – whether through connectivity or cargo and storage solutions,” said Thomas Ingenlath senior vice president for design at Volvo Cars.
The new V90 delivers cutting-edge Pilot Assist semi-autonomous drive technology, the most advanced standard safety package on the market, with large animal detection and run-off road mitigation, and class-leading connectivity including smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay.
Volvo Cars has also worked tirelessly on driving dynamics in the new model delivering a totally new and refined driving experience characterised by a sense of engaging control and predictability.
“We have a very strong offer in the V90. The T8 Twin Engine gas plug-in hybrid will deliver around 400 hp and a pure electric range of around 50 km,” said Dr Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research & Development at Volvo Cars.
The new Volvo V90 is scheduled to arrive in the United States in 2017.

Style wise, Volvo is on a total roll right now. The XC90 is just drop dead beautiful, inside and out.
I'm still not sold on that 2.0 superchaged and turbocharged motor though. Gets worse than EPA claimed gas mileage, has no power off-boost at lower rpms and is extremely complex. That complexity combined with the high boost it has to run(300+hp from 2.0 liters) makes me think it would be a complete money pit once the warranty is up, one thing after another going wrong with it.

Very nice! It's too bad wagons (estates) just don't sell well here in the U.S. it's all CUV's and SUV's. At best, it will be a niche vehicle here and might do well internationally..
