Toyota kills off Scion

Toyota obviously did this to themselves, regardless of the usually corporate BS in today's press release about the economy. It's as simple as not pouring in new products equates to shooting yourself in the foot.
As far as no-haggle pricing, it is good we are with one less company who practices it. No-haggle pricing enables the dealer/manufacture to manipulate the "sale" price, and rob the consumer of further savings.

Not surprised either. I am sorry though to see the tC isn't going to become a Toyota model. Not sure the thought process there...

Scion is a disaster from the beginning for a number of reasons.
1) Poor Sales Plan
Scion had a tiny place in the corner of HUGE Toyota dealers. Salesman were never really pushing the cars probably bec of the "fixed" pricing and low commissions.
2) Poor Product Planning
Toyota just rebadged cars it sold in other markets and try to pass it as something unique that was a Scion.
What a joke - customers are not that dumb.
3) Poor Marketing
Young people want unique new products and a certain "cool" factor.
Original XB had that at the beginning so what did Toyota do - make it look more mainstream to get larger customer base. That goes to show they know nothing about the target market for the Scion brand.

Its old sure, but they need some sort of zippy, youthful coupe that is a little more practical.

If the vehicle is sensibly-priced in the first place, getting a discount is not as important. That was the policy at Saturn when it was extremely successful in the 1990s.....price the cars competitively and make the deal simple.

On Wednesday, February 3, Toyota announced it would discontinue the Scion brand and transition it to Toyota. As part of that announcement, Jim Lentz, Toyota Motor North America CEO, addressed media by video.

"While none of the three models moving over to Toyota will get a name change in the near term, the GT86 name is being evaluated over the next six to eight months. Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations at Toyota, said the FR-S name is being kept for now because there is a lot of equity associated with it. However, it may be possible that the FR-S will get a name change to GT86 for its mid-cycle refresh or next generation."

That video was a pile of BS.
I wish Toyota can be honest and just admit that Scion brand is no longer working and therefore change was necessary.......Many millions later down the drain.

Scion was originally created to attract younger customers that wanted more customization options, but instead their boxy, funky look attracted older Baby Boomers that probably drove PT Cruisers when they were younger.

A surprising number of older people bought the Scion xB. They liked its excellent space efficiency, good gas mileage, Toyota reliability, low price, ease of entry/exit from the butt-level seats, and easy, low-stress, no-haggle deals.

Toyota is a real fail, they made the new scions look so ugly and that's why they aren't selling.. The older tC sold like hot cakes. Changing the name will do nothing for their sales. Remake them to something that doesn't look like it was designed by a kid and they will sell again

Never mind the styling of the car. I would think that any automaker that would create a built-in stick that would allow Millennials to keep their devices in front of their faces while driving would be the runaway winner. Every time I'm on the road I see someone holding their device in front of their face, right over the steering wheel, and pretending to drive.
Sorry I strayed off topic.
