F Type is a great idea, never even thought of that...

Performance is not as important as rarity/styling, refinement, decent ride comfort, and some luxury/panache, but a sweet engine note is a must! Having a back seat would be a plus for possibly a rare road trip with wife and two kids. Finally, reliability is important as I would keep it as long as possible.

Based on the above, would you go for the RC F? Or what other new or used cars in this price range would you consider?
Is that even a question? You owned two Lexus! Go get your F and call it a day! Even you ask for opinions but your mind is set already!

From what I know about you, I can't imagine you buying anything other than an RC F in that range.

Or maybe trade in your IS so you can bump up to a GS F.

Have you driven a GT-R? Actually I was pretty impressed with the refinement....

I was going to say Tesla Model S until you mentioned it must have a sweet engine note. lol

I wouldn't getting mind getting my hands on a used Porsche Panamera Turbo. 4.8L V8 turbo sounds delicious.

Yeah, she's a looker alright - hard not to stare at that rump.

In the end, you might be right, but one always needs to have an open mind, consider other options, especially with a bias present.

haha, yeah Lexus is in my blood and for the first time I'm considering a transfusion!

I did consider the GS F, but marked it off as it's a little over budget and not enough styling distinction (to my eyes) over the non-F GS.

Was a passenger once and the interior just doesn't do it for me. But it's killer fast!

Didn't think of the Panamera. Always liked its imposing stance. Will look into it.

My updated list:

RC F
C7 Vette
Cayman
F Type
Panamera (would definitely have to be used)

What about the Chevy SS? You can get manual transmission and its built in Australia. It is definitely rare and after 2017, it will be axed since Holden will no longer manufacture cars down under. The price is mid 40s.

You could get a used AMG Benz. Granted they aren't that "fun" in terms of handling/driving dynamics, but man they are fast and sound awesome.

With depreciation, I'd just have to get me a "65" AMG. That's the one with the twin turbo v12 making 604hp/738lb-ft torque. Same engine that's under the hood of a Pagani Huayra

You could get that engine combo in an SL roadster, the big CL coupe, or S class sedan. Best thing to do would make sure it still has a warranty, maybe buy it CPO through the Benz dealership.

If you don't go with the F-type suggestions (I'll vouch for it too) and really want a back seat, check out the Audi RS5:

You don't see many of them around.

Well optioned V6 S convertibles (380hp supercharged V6) run into the low 90s MSRP, so I think you'd be able to get a VERY lightly used one with very low miles for $75k or less. There's a heavily-optioned 2015 V6 S convertible in my area that's never been titled listed for $77k.

For a similarly optioned V8 S (550hp supercharged V8), MSRP comes to just under $110k, so you'd probably have to go just a bit older/more miles to hit your target price. I see a few 2014s for $68k-73k with under 10k miles.

Been there done that (V8S vert) and I'd say go for it. The central air vents that automatically raise/lower broke 3 times but outside of that it was problem free for the time i had it. Not saying much for 2 years but it was driven regularly. No back seat though.

If you can afford the maintenance, buy a Porsche 911.

New Corvette with a proper manual would still be my choice. Its just such an exciting car to look at and drive. Sitting down low, with those huge fenders out in front of you, you're sitting there with that V8 rumble that shakes the whole car at idle, its pretty heady stuff IMO.

New or used?

Used aston martin prices have come down a lot, for 80k USD you can get a 2013 with less than 10k miles

80k can also get you the earlier gallardos and ferrari 360s, along with a higher mileage (30k ish) porsche 997 turbo

For the same amount or less you could buy a brand new 2016 C63 with nearly the same power (503hp for the 2016 vs 510 for the black) as the black. That said, I wouldn't ever spend $80k on a C class personally.
