Bump

Nothing exciting about the LC lately? Lexus has been pretty quiet.

They're testing this LC race car in Japan

Yeah, bummer. When I was much younger and the 90's SC was out I wanted one so bad and couldn't afford it. Now the LC is coming and I could probably swing it but I'd be in serious debt and now need to think about more "grown up" matters and expenses. Timing is everything.

Lexus needs to be VERY careful how they price this LC.

As evidenced by the RCF/GSF, consumers are not rushing to buy expensive "performance" cars that are way underpowered from Lexus.
I'm still shocked this car will have the old engine from RCF/GSF and a crappy hybrid that nobody will buy.

It needs a TT V6 with 400hp as base engine, TT V8 with 500hp as optional engine, and TT V8 with 600-650hp for the F variant. - This would be a start and get it noticed, otherwise the rich folks will continue to buy their S550/S63 coupes, SL550/63s, 6Series and M6s.

Hybrid is all it needs if they price it accordingly as V6 competition and not on the same level as other V8s. That has been a problem for Toyota since day one with their RWD hybrids.

I will agree that Lexus needs to offer some sort of TTV6 and I am sure they are going to do that. A TTV8 is very likely out of the question. The LC500 will be more limited in production as CAFE rules are going to dictate this. Lexus will introduce the hybrid version and the V8 version for early adopters and then we should see the TT V6 come to market.

.
The new LC should sell on styling and interior quality. If it does not, I will be shocked.

Agree there shouldn't be anything 'cheap' about it. The proof should be in the details. For example, the PWR-VOL ****:

Lexus engineers tried to replicate the ***** from $10,000 stereo systems for the LC 500’s interior. The metal-trimmed volume **** for the car’s audio system has a lot of heft as you turn it.
Source and other cool tidbits

Thanks for the info, that was a good link.

From what I have seen, the details and the interior quality are going to make current Lexus owners very happy. It also looks like a very nice design language going for it. IMO, Lexus has finally gotten the exterior done right.

IMO, the only issue that I see on the horizon is that when the auto press universally praises a particular vehicle, that does not always translate into universal love by people who actually buy the cars.

Obviously it is a lot more expensive than regular V6 so it cant be priced as regular V6... however this time around, it is also very quick. It is not for USA anyway, but for Europe and Japan where their RWD hybrids sell fine.

They'll make money on these. Customers have been asking for a $100k+ car from Lexus, and a coupe is icing on the cake. I think this and the next LS will elevate Lexus even further.

I think you guys are over emphasizing the power versus price issue.
The BMW 650 is 450hp starting at 89K
The Sclass coupe is 449hp starting at 120K

Yes, both those cars have torque ratings that blow away the Lexus but the power and cost are more than being right there to make Lexus a competitive buy.
What Lexus needs are more variants. The Benz comes in AMG's with enough power to stop the rotation of the earth. The BMW M is close to that. Those power monsters cost quite a bit more though. I am more than happy with Lexus' 467hp but they should make an Fsport model with at least 550hp.

That's my take on all of this.

why are you sure?

A TTV8 is very likely out of the question.
since they've never done one, i'd says that's a safe bet.

CAFE is irrelevant. even if LC500 somehow sold in 'huge numbers' in its class, those numbers wouldn't budge toyota's overall CAFE.

agreed.

Is this car going to serve as the foundation for the next Supra? It's definitely (at least by the pictures) got similar proportions to the MKIV Supra.

Kinda like the SC300 came out in 1992 a year before they launched the MKIV. And in 1993 Supra comes out with the same engine but with alot more power but less luxury?

What if Toyota is reserving the much more powerful variant of this car to have a Toyota badge on it.
