Pricing wise, how would the LC compare to the RC?
Both are more grand tourer than sports car but the RC looks like the odd duck, especially as it's made from a mix of IS and GS parts. Maybe a downsized variant of the LC could replace the RC not long after 2017. It makes sense for Lexus to use a common, updated platform for cost and dynamics reasons: BMW and Mercedes are already doing this with their top sedans and coupes, with BMW also using composites and aluminum to increase strength and reduce weight.
Heck, Lexus made the gorgeous LFA out of composites, so they definitely have the know-how. It's just that tricky matter of cost...

Did you ever consider reviving the SC nameplate?
The LC is a completely different segment to the SC, so we were very careful not to use the SC name. With the all-new platform and the craftsmanship and the technology that we’ve put into the LC, it competes with cars that are much more expensive.
The LC will start under $100,000, but under $100,000 is a lot different than the SC price.

The IS and GS are on the same platform, and that platform sprinkled with some other stuff makes the RC. That platform is only 3 years old. That platform isn't going anywhere, nor do we want those cars put on a bigger car platform (the LC and LS are going to be derived from that platform). Thats what BMW did with the 5 Series and look what that did to the chassis.
The IS/GS chassis is a GREAT chassis. Every car doesn't have to be derived from the same thing.

That's because BMW did it badly. I highly doubt the next-gen G30 5-series is going to suffer in the same way the F10 5-series did from sharing a platform with a bigger sibling. That's the beauty of the increased modularity of modern platforms.

I think BMW's problem is they did the F10 5 series on the cheap since they were pouring all their R&D money into weird hybrid cars that nobody is going to buy like the i3 and i8(although the i8 is beautiful).

I know they need to compete with Mercedes and BMW, who both have large convertibles, but in reality only 1% of cars sold today in North America are convertibles, and look at where Lexus has the largest market share. Europeans still love convertibles, but Lexus hasn't quite cornered that market yet. Mercedes and BMW... goes without saying. That is most likely the reason they are waiting so long.
And these comments are coming from someone who owns a G37 convertible.
