Lexus LC News

Just got back from day 1 at Detroit, and seeing this in person at the press conference, my jaw dropped. This car looks INSANE in person. I was blown away that they carried forward so much from the LF-LC concept that I saw in 2012. The LC500 is so low and sleek, it's like nothing you've ever seen before. I'm trying to get actual interior shots, but the car has been locked up and the Lexus rep says most likely continue to be locked up for the duration of the show. Will try again for more pics tomorrow. Here's a handful from today.

S-Class is more luxury GT cruiser than Sporty luxury car that Lexus looks to be targeting with the LC. S-Class coupe also starts about 30k more than the 650i. S-Class coupe is like a cheaper alternative to a Bentley Coupe. I feel the SL (despite only being a 2 seat convertible) is more a 650i competitor.

The LC uses lightweight carbon fibre in its construction and weighs 1,800kg
Andrew was one of the journalists that tested LC and gave input during its development. His article is a good rood, as is Lexus UK version of it:

Interesting point was that lightweight version of the vehicle was not tested yet by journalist, that will come in February. That prototype in February will have carbon fibre parts, previous ones did not. Also last prototype had rear wheel steering, I dont think Lexus has announced this yet, but the car will have optional RWS, optional carbon firbe roof, optional 21" forged wheels, optional ML, optional sport seats.
Which brings us to the pricing - this is S coupe competitor and 650i is lower class vehicle. Lexus confirmed on the show that car will be just under 100k base, and there are plenty of options that we know of.
Lexus says this LC 500 will start at just under $100,000, though the world will know it as a six-figure car.
The LC 500 sports coupe, unveiled Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, accelerates from 0-to-60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds, faster than the Mercedes SL550. The car will begin sales in early 2017 and start at just under $100,000, more for higher trims.
The LC will arrive in spring, 2017, and will be priced under $100,000. Jeff Bracken, who heads the Lexus division in the U.S., says the brand expects to sell about 400 a month in the U.S., and another 150 worldwide.
So if $100k is base, and then we get 21" forged wheels, carbon firbe roof, ML, sport seats, rear wheel steer... It will likely be something like $115k loaded.
Jeff Bracken already announced targets 400 per month in the USA.

Absolutely stunning. I think Lexus has pulled off a third "LS 400" effort, starting with obviously the first LS 400 that introduced Lexus to the world, the LFA that broke expectations of what a Lexus car is, and now the LC 500 that I feel will set the direction for future Lexus vehicles. Lexus' effort in delivering the concept into a real production model suggests to me that they are finally implementing the framework and benchmark they set with the LFA. Car and Driver said in 2011 that if Lexus put the same effort they put into the LFA into their whole lineup: the industry better watch out. The way that Lexus says the designers and engineers worked together through the whole process to make the concept into a reality really shows in the final product. I'm really excited for this upcoming generation of Lexus cars.
With that said: this car looks like the whole package with a gorgeous exterior true to the LF-LC and an interior that is not quite like the concept's interior but manages to put its competition to shame. I was hoping they would be able to implement the transparent OLED displays of the concept but I think they kept the spirit of it with that wide band of glass in the dashboard. I'm quite surprised that they were able to implement the unique "afterburner" style LED tail lights of the LF-LC. All in all Lexus has exceeded my expectations and they were already quite high. Looking to see more about the LC in the next year.

Just a beautiful design all around. Very happy to see Lexus rise to the top again. I have no doubt at all this car will become the talk of the town and a very strong seller. I also suspect Hollywood and celebrity interest with it.
About the only thing that doesn't sit right is the on-sale date. Over a year from now? Thought this thing was ready...
