SUV sales are booming right now cuz of low oil prices. Will oil prices remain that way? Probably not so in the long(er) run, a sedan is probably better if you dont need an SUV. Just like how hybrid sales were booming, now its lagging. Kinda shortsighted buying vehicles based on oil prices, of course lots of buyers have legitimate needs for a SUV.

cuv's in particular barely have any economy penalty over sedans (cr-v, rav4, sportage, etc.) and more and more people have come to prefer the higher seating position, being easier to get in and out of, easier to get stuff in and out of, more cargo space, better visibility, etc.
and even with all that when have people needed 'legitimate needs' in order to prefer something? i'm thinking of the zillions of pick up trucks purchased by people who never 'haul' or 'tow' anything.

It appears Lexus sells more SUV's than all other Lexus vehicles combined...173,470 SUV's compared to 171,131 sedans, coupes, hatchbacks and exotic sports car...

wrong. cuv/suv sales have exceeded sedan sales in u.s. for years now.

if every other vehicle in front of you is a truck or suv, yes you'll get better visibility if you're in an suv or truck than if you're in a sedan.

The RC has one full year of sales. The RC is off to a good start for the first 12 months of 2015 with only the RC 350 and RC F. Currently we now have the RC 200t and RC 300 awd sales should increase in the U.S. and worldwide.
December 2015
4 Series 5,601
RC 1,711
A5 1,000
G37 coupe 290
YTD 2015 (Jan - Dec)
4 Series 44,162
RC 14,784
A5 12,934
G37 coupe 3,949
Since Inception
4 Series 84,302
RC 16,706
A5 113,959
I'm projecting that Lexus will sell about 15,000 units (U.S.), 45,000 units (worldwide) of the RC for all of 2016.
RC 200t
RC 300h (outside U.S.)
RC 300 awd
RC 350
RC 350C (hopefully coming soon to replace IS 250C/350C)
RC F
Lexus bring the RC 300h to the U.S.
Audi has the A5, S5 and RS5. I'm sure most sales are of the A5 base model...
