Default Pure Guard Global ATF... Any Good?

Hey guys!

Just purchased a used RX330 and while looking through the paperwork I found a transmission service. Unfortunately, they didn't use OEM fluids and used Pure Guard Global ATF fluid instead. I have never heard or used it before. I'm debating going to a Lexus dealer and buying new fluid and doing a drain and fill myself.

Any thoughts?

Their spec sheet:
http://www.sterlingpetroleum.com/sit...fspecsheet.pdf

They list this as Type IV compatible and "satisfactory" for WS transmissions. I prefer Type IV though are are compatible fluids that will perform fine in the transmission. Up to your comfort level whether to drain this out.

You will be ok, Change it in 30-50k and put T-IV back in it.

Thank you! That's reassuring. I will change it in 30k miles.

FWIW, most of these "generic" fluids use the same additive package from Lubrizol or Afton Chemical - just the base oil will be different. I'm all for OEM fluids - but I used Valvoline MaxLife ATF with no ill effects. As of matter of fact, a well-known local independent shop that works exclusively on Japanese cars uses Castrol Transmax Import in most things that don't call for Type-WS/Nissan-Matic/Subaru HP or Mazda-Ford M-V fluid.

If it makes you feel better, a drain and fill with either Toyota T-IV or a good aftermarket fluid like Valvoline MaxLife/Castrol Import wouldn't hurt. And I'm surprised the filter wasn't swapped out as well, it's a quick 5 minute job once the pan is dropped.
