2016 BMW 340i First Drive

MUCH more room. We were able to get $200 over invoice (over $5k savings) on a 2016 that we ordered with an early allocation. I had to work my *** off to get it but it's better than anyone that I've seen on a new one since you could order one in July. M3's seem to be much more limited. The allocations are much later and there's very little room to negotiate because there just aren't that many available. This all applies to builds and not what is already on the lots. But they are even being stingy with those.
I'm actually thinking of picking up a 2015 M3 in the next few months. The other option is a '13 M5 for around the same price but I'm petrified of the reliability after warranty.

Got to drive a new (less than 3k miles) M4 for a good half hour. Nice car for sure, just don't know if it's worth the $80+k to be honest. Will say one thing, it was slower than I expected it to be, turbos didn't feel like they fully kicked in until about 5k which is ridiculous for a stock setup. Also, that exhaust note.... I cannot believe someone gave that sound the okay. Sounds quite horrid to be honest. Luckily the car is well insulated inside and you don't hear it with the windows up when you drive.

I think you all need to get your ears checked if you think the new M4 or the old E46 sound bad

i dont understand why it sounds so bad. the 2jz was an inline 6 with a pair of turbos...it sounded great.

I'm not sure what mode it was in. I'm not saying it was a slow car, but just slower than I expected it to be based on the numbers. I've worked on dozens of these cars, almost every one was optioned to well over $80k. Did not realize the starting price was only $60k. What's on these cars that costs an additional $20-$25k? The carbon roof and lip kit? None of them had ceramic rotors so that can't be it....

of course...if the owner got some of the M Performance aftermarket equipment...that can add up really, REALLY quick. the exhaust is like 4 grand and then there are all kindsa CF interior add-ons and aero goodies.

i can tell by owning one that the M4 sounds like pure ****. go on the bimmerpost boards...even the fanboys admit that it doesnt sound good. and it sounds even worse on cold start. it DOES sound better with the exhaust in sport plus mode and higher in the rev range. but it still sounds...terrible.

It actually is better for your view than the hump over the nav screen like the last-gen 3-series.

I agree, 60K is ridiculous for a entry level car, that is the reason so many luxury sales come from leases and why expensive luxury cars tend to depreciate like rocks after a few years.
