Alluminum body, stronger frame, better interior.

One thing they knocked out of the park on the exterior is the dually fenders. They were hideous on the 11-16 models. The new ones are the best dually fenders I've ever seen.

The front end takes a bit to get used to, but it still looks nice. Could have made it look less like a Chevy though.

And this King Ranch is just gorgeous

Didn't know they did the King Ranch trim on the 250/350 Super-Duty.

I noticed, though, that Chevy, with the new Siverado just being unveiled, chose not go to the aluminum sheet-metal that Ford did on the F-series. I wonder if there is something they know that the Ford designers don't.

Yeah, it's been available on the Super Duty trim since 2003.

I imagine they had already had the redesign planned out before aluminum hit the scene and didn't want to make changes at this point. The rumor mill in the truck world is saying that GM will be going aluminum by 2020.


No numbers have been given yet for power, towing capacity, etc. I imagine you need only take the current RAM numbers and add a few thousand to the towing and maybe 50-100 tq.

No sense looking at GM. It's like they're not even in the game anymore.

The Silverado that was just introduced is NOT a new model; it is a Mid-Model Change, a facelift of the model that came out 2 years ago. We have become somewhat used to very extensive MMCs recently (Honda Civic, Chevy Malibu, Toyota Camry) but none of them introduced real structural changes, the type of extensive and design-intensive changes that would be necessary for a change to an aluminum body.

And Chevy is still running "steel good, aluminum bad" commercials. They would not be running those commercials if they were about to introduce a new aluminum-bodied pickup truck within a few weeks.

No wonder this new Super Duty looks smaller (to my eyes) -- it is using the same cabs as the new-last-year light duty F150.

Do they use the pickup truck cab and front end for motorhomes and ambulances? Up here, they use the E-Series (van) cab for motorhomes, ambulances and those small school buses.

But perhaps they have discontinued the E-Series chassis and cutaway cab models; I just saw a small school bus with the Ford Transit cab and front end the other day.
