Prior to folks being heavily analytical about individual model sales, August 2015 included a severe market correction that stopped a lot of folks from making major purchases like cars

Audi Sets 56th Straight Monthly U.S. Record with 9.9% Gain in August 2015

- Second-best sales month in Audi of America history
- All-time best U.S. sales month for Audi Q5 SUV
- All-new and technologically advanced Audi TT models off to strong sales start

September 01, 2015 10:45 AM Eastern Daylight Time

“The fast start for the technologically advanced Audi TT perfectly encapsulates the ingredients of Audi momentum over these past 56 months”

- Second-best sales month in Audi of America history
- All-time best U.S. sales month for Audi Q5 SUV
- All-new and technologically advanced Audi TT models off to strong sales start
- Audi reported that its August 2015 sales increased 9.9% to 18,794 vehicles, a total that stands as the second-best monthly result ever in the U.S. market.

Audi achieved its best-ever August sales in the U.S. to mark its 56th consecutive monthly sales record. The previous August record was set in 2014 with 17,101 Audi vehicles sold. Through the first eight months of 2015, Audi U.S. sales rose 12.1% from last year to 130,063 vehicles.

August 2015 only trails the December 2014 all-time monthly record of 19,238 vehicles sold.

August results were bolstered by sales of Audi luxury SUVs, with a 40.9% increase for the Audi Q3, Q5 and Q7 models combined. The Q5 posted a 34.4% increase from last year, marking its best-ever sales month in the U.S. The Q7 posted an 8.4% increase from last August.

A key August 2015 sales highlight was the strong launch of the all-new Audi TT. In its first full month of U.S. market availability, the third-generation sports car line turned in a 259.3% sales improvement from a year earlier.

“The fast start for the technologically advanced Audi TT perfectly encapsulates the ingredients of Audi momentum over these past 56 months,” said Mark Del Rosso, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Audi of America. “It is a story built on steady dealer investments, relentless new product development and a determination to be an industry leader in dramatic technologies such as the fully digital cockpit found in the TT models.”

The A3 model line achieved robust sales led by the Audi A3 Cabriolet models in August 2015. The compact premium models achieved a 31.2% increase over year-earlier sales. The Audi A7 model also performed well, with a year-over-year increase of 11.0%.

Audi holds the longest running monthly record sales streak in the premium car market according to a competitive sales report from MotorIntelligence.com.

Lexus is killing it... September will be huge due to labor day weekend shifting to September instead of August which brought lower sales.

One more month like this and Lexus will be #1...

Lexus has a lot of potential to increase sales in last 3-4 months of the year:
- All new RX comes late October, so 2 months... but not sure if this will increase sales, who knows what will production be.
- Facelifted ES already started well.
- IS200t, GS200t, GS-F and LX should bring up the numbers with new engines, facelifts, etc.
- NX and RC will continue to sell well.

This was traditionally Lexus' Golden Opportunity sales promotion month so I would expect near-term future sales to fall off until the new RX comes out.

Volvo Cars posted a 3.2 per cent increase in retail sales for the month of August, selling 30,195 cars globally. Europe and the US market were the growth drivers, boosted by continued high demand for Volvo’s new XC90 model as well as the company’s other XC-carlines.

Retail sales in Europe as a whole were up by 6.5 per cent to a total of 12,867 cars, led by Sweden where Volvo reported a 19.2 per cent increase. The V40 is the most sold Volvo model in Europe, followed by the Volvo XC60.

The United States reported 5,870 retail sales which represents a 18.3 per cent increase versus the same month last year. The growth was driven mainly by the new Volvo XC90 as well as the XC60 model, which was the best-selling Volvo model.

Sales in China reached 5,574 cars, where the locally produced Volvo XC60 and S60L continue to be the best selling models. The decline in China reflects the general slowdown in the Chinese economy which has affected the overall car market.

“I am pleased to see how our strengthened product offer led by the new XC90 is boosting the US market for Volvo Cars”, said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars. “Thanks to our strong presence in all three key regions, I expect continued global growth for this year”.

The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in August with 9,595 sold cars (2014: 8,695), followed by the Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country for which deliveries reached a total of 6,394 cars (2014: 6,212). The S60 models were the third best-selling carline at 4,567 cars (2014: 5,251). Sales figures by model can be found in the Sales Volumes section of the Global Newsroom.

Key August 2015 sales notes:
Fluctuating global financial markets, in combination with an absent Labor Day selling weekend, resulted in decreased YOY sales.
MX-5 had its best August since 2006 (1,451 units) with 1,344 vehicles, an increase of 254.6 percent YOY (379 in August 2014). This is the first whole month of sales for the all-new 2016 MX-5.
Mazda's all-new CX-3 sold 698 vehicles. It began arriving in dealers in mid-August.
Mazda CX-5 had its second-best August with 10,033 vehicles sold.
Mazda3 sales in August 2015 achieved 10,161 vehicles.
August Mazda6 sales reached 5,402 units.
Mazda's outstanding sixth-generation vehicles (Mazda3, Mazda6, MX-5, CX-3 and CX-5) have combined YTD sales up 6.4 percent.
As the company's sixth-generation of vehicle sales grow so does SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY. Mazda's no-compromise solution to driving performance and fuel efficiency has proven to be an affordable and beneficial solution for consumers. In August 2015, 89.4 percent of Mazdas sold were equipped with SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY.
Mazda reported Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) August sales of 3,296 vehicles, down 26.0 percent YOY.
Mazda Motor de Mexico (MMdM) reported August sales of 4,571 vehicles, up 28.0 percent versus last year, making it the best August in MMdM history and the 31st consecutive month of YOY growth. Year-to-date sales for MMdM are up 43.0 percent with 35,000 vehicles sold.

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) reported August 2015 sales of 8,289, an increase of 22.1 percent from August 2014. This is the brand's 18th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases. Year-to-date sales are up 24.4 percent over the same period in 2014.

Featuring over 100 engineering and design improvements, the 2016 Outlander 7-passenger crossover vehicle went on sale in August and showed strong results. Total August sales for the Outlander were 2,188, which accounted for its best August sales in 12 years; an increase of 92.9 percent over August 2014.

"August was another strong sales month of consecutive year-over-year increases for Mitsubishi Motors," said Don Swearingen, executive vice president, MMNA. "But what is really exciting this month is how well the new Outlander is being received by consumers, accounting for 75 percent of total Outlander sales in its 1st month on-sale. And while this is happening, Outlander Sport is leading the way for the brand alongside stellar sales results from the rest of our core models."

yeah, really.. if you take NX out of equation, Lexus still outsold the BMW and MB.

No need to look at Lexus sales with special glasses, they are doing pretty darn good. It should be a positive that they are doing great with new models, this industry works that way, no need to make special rules for Lexus.

And it was also the same last year which we use to compare the numbers to.

This year also had a shift of labor day weekend to September, which affected both Toyota and Lexus sales... so I expect numbers for September to be significantly inflated compared to last year as well.
