90k Service due for a 2008 Lexus GX 470
Hello everybody:
My vehicle (2008 GX 470, 89500 miles) is nearing the 90k-mile mark and I was wondering if anyone here has had to go beyond that milestone (pun unintended), and how much farther beyond 90K, before performing the service.
The 90K mile will be reached in 2 weeks and I won't be ready to shell out the kind of money that the Lexus dealer is asking for the service. Meanwhile, the Toyota dealer is asking for about half what the Lexus service wants but for (Toyota) just replacing the timing belt and water pump. I worry about the Lexus service as they might find a reason to tag on other charges that were not envisioned at the time I was quoted a price of $1500.00 (Lexus Service). Toyota's Quote was just $585.00 (timing belt and water pump).
Intuitively, the Toyota quote seems to be a better buy but I am not sure the vehicle would receive all that it shout at that interval service point.
I have wondered a lot why Toyota chose to produce vehicles with such timing belts that have such limited lifespans. Range Rover (1991 Range Rover Country LWB) manufacture vehicles with timing belts that last for at least 240k miles and even for some of their worst reliability-rated vehicles produced in the 1990's and 2000's.
Your opinions and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Considering that the GX and 4Runner V8 have the same powertrain, a Toyota dealer will have trouble doing the work.
I personally would not go the independent route, but that is just me.

Did you mean to say that at the Toyota Dealer would or would not have any troubles dealing with the Lexus GX 470?
Thanks.

FYI, the 4.7 is an older design and it will have catastrophic engine damage if the belt breaks. There is no forgiveness with the 4.7
