lx buyers aren't interested in a rocket ship. to me it's plenty powerful enough.

since lx is based on lc and they are actually used off road and in places where gasoline quality is poor, that's probably why no direct injection.
G wagon is used in remote regions and off road. Canadian military uses them. So Lexus can use the high tech engines for N A and leave the low end stuff for overseas.

to be fair, as much as i love the LX (which i do love a lot), compared to others in the same segment, it does lack in power. or at least the driving feel of it

I wouldn't be surprised if the G class outsells the LX all over the world including the Gulf States.

LX easily outsells the G wagon in the Gulf ( and worldwide in total sales ) and then some.

You see way more LX's on the road, you can't even compare to be honest in terms of sales. The LX is very very popular on the roads, it basically is as popular as a Corolla/Camry would be on US roads.

They sold around 13k G wagons in the world in 2014 compared to around 28k LX 570s. ( More than half of which had been sold in the Gulf ). The 2016 model will sell even more.

Thanks for the insights! Is there an online source where I can look up the worldwide sales reports of these vehicles?

What can't be disputed is that the LX is a better drive and will continue to be until the G-wagen gets its comprehensive update in 2017.

This is true, but remember that's a function of production capacity:

"Interestingly, it still builds G-Class models in the same manner it did three decades ago. If you're looking for automation or robotic aids, you'll find precious little along the G-Class assembly line. The vast majority of each truck is hand-built, including the body: after receiving panels from a stamping facility, workers position them in place by hand, and perform each and every weld manually. Employees hand-prep the body for priming and painting, and bustle to push shells to the paint line - which may be the sole automated portion of the line. The G-Class's boxed-frame chassis is assembled manually on a separate line, and workers mate the built-up frame with the painted body in an old-fashioned "marriage" at a later point on the line." (Automobile Magazine)

You're not pumping out a ton of G-wagens per day with this method.

The idea that the G class is hand crafted is pretty freaking awesome IMO. That and a hand crafted V12 with 727 lbs of torque?

As for the LX, its a fine SUV. Although the new interior or exterior are not my cup of tea, I am glad they are trying. I was just hoping for an update to the 5.7. The 2013-15 LX570 was the best looking.

Even if they increased production of the current G Class, it will increase Worldwide figures but it won't outsell the LX in the Gulf.
The LX is based on the Land Cruiser as all of you know, the Land Cruiser is the number 1 choice for a large number of people in the Gulf and is in the top 3 best selling vehicles in the region and the number 1 selling vehicle in various Gulf countries. Naturally those current LC owners who wish to upgrade to something more luxurious will look at the LX before considering anything else = already you have a large number of potential buyers and these potential buyers are quickly turning into owners and customers of Lexus while at the same time LC sales keep increasing.

LX sales really took off here with the introduction of the LX 570 as the LX began to differentiate itself further inside and out from the LC, they knew it was based on the LC so they where confident and knew it would serve them just as well but now they had incentive to own one because it actually felt like an upgrade ( unlike the LX 470 which basically identical to the fully loaded LC back then )

QX80 doesn't sell well over here..why?
Most people just go for the Patrol instead.
Very little difference on the inside between the Patrol and QX and most people think the QX looks uglier than the Patrol, it also misses out on the off road goodies so it doesn't really sell. You can even get it for less than a fully loaded Patrol.....

G doesnt sell anywhere close to those numbers, it is nowhere in the same league.... it is never listed in the top lists in sales in those countries... so while G is cool and gets nice press, in reality, thats not reflected in sales... on the other hand, if we look at sales stats for gulf countries, LC and LX are very popular there, basically like Camry is in USA.

So when it comes to sales, G isnt dojng anything similar to LX numbers. It is really a niche model where LX now outsells LS worldwide.
