I don't see any similarity to the QX80. The headlights of the QX80 are placed much lower and make the front look like Frankenstein with a huge bulged forehead. The new LX has its headlights flush with the hood, making it look much sharper, more streamlined and better proportioned.

That engine is going to be big bucks in that Mercedes. Not really comparable but I get what you are saying, it would be nice to have more power. I guess Lexus could do what Range Rover does and have a supercharged option but then I wonder if they would be able to sell such an expensive model.

They have many models that much more badly need engine updates just to be competive in their respective segments. The LX is simply not one of them. I'd much rather see them put efforts into where it counts the most first.

Lexus don't make the supercharged LX anymore btw, they haven't been making it for over a year now. It was only a very limited run in the end of MY2014.
FYI the whole TRD supercharge program has been discontinued as of JUNE 2015. Replacement parts and support will remain for 10 years.

Sorry, but if I'm paying $100k for a flagship Lexus, then it should have the latest and greatest when it comes to engines and the output of those engines.

I thought you were referring to the G63 AMG when you mentioned the G with a twin turbo V8.
Anyhow the LX570 has plenty of power for an offroading SUV already, and it still beats the 340hp Range Rover that costs even more.
Lexus should worry much more about getting their V6 and regular V8 turbo'd first before thinking about turbo'ing a truck. Mercedes must have the same idea and that's why the G gets turbo'd much later than their car and CUV offerings.

Again, if you have $115k for the G550 or $218k for the G65 AMG, sure go ahead. You get what you pay for and you pay for what you get. The LX570 starts at $81k and I would worry more for the G550 if it doesn't actually start providing anything more than the LX570 does for a whopping $34k more.
Lexus can go upmarket one segment at a time and the LX isn't really in the hottest segment that they should pursue first.

i would put the chances of that fuel economy at around zero. prob around 16 from the current, what, 14 or 15?
lx buyers aren't interested in a rocket ship. to me it's plenty powerful enough.
since lx is based on lc and they are actually used off road and in places where gasoline quality is poor, that's probably why no direct injection.
