I know some of the details are definitely different but for some reason the overall shape reminds me of the Infiniti.

It looks like they benchmarked The Infiniti IMO.

That engine is going to be big bucks in that Mercedes. Not really comparable but I get what you are saying, it would be nice to have more power. I guess Lexus could do what Range Rover does and have a supercharged option but then I wonder if they would be able to sell such an expensive model.

Huh what are you talking about? In terms of the overall shape the LX has always looked this way since day 1. Can you be more specific on which elements you think make the LX look like the QX56? If anything the QX copied the LX since the LX has a much longer history.

True, the V12 G wagon is gonna be $220k in the US. But eventually Lexus is gonna have to take the leap and get to the next price point for the cars and SUVs. Outside of the ES and RX, the sales of the line up are not stellar.

They have many models that much more badly need engine updates just to be competive in their respective segments. The LX is simply not one of them. I'd much rather see them put efforts into where it counts the most first.

Lexus don't make the supercharged LX anymore btw, they haven't been making it for over a year now. It was only a very limited run in the end of MY2014.
FYI the whole TRD supercharge program has been discontinued as of JUNE 2015. Replacement parts and support will remain for 10 years.

Sorry, but if I'm paying $100k for a flagship Lexus, then it should have the latest and greatest when it comes to engines and the output of those engines.

Then don't. Simples.

You can say the same to the G550 that $100k won't even buy for you, BTW.

G class gets a new twin turbo V8 for 2016 as the base model.

Yup, with 415 horsepower and 450 lb.ft. of torque. Interestingly, the more powerful G63 AMG outsells the G550 by a large amount.

I thought you were referring to the G63 AMG when you mentioned the G with a twin turbo V8.

Anyhow the LX570 has plenty of power for an offroading SUV already, and it still beats the 340hp Range Rover that costs even more.

Lexus should worry much more about getting their V6 and regular V8 turbo'd first before thinking about turbo'ing a truck. Mercedes must have the same idea and that's why the G gets turbo'd much later than their car and CUV offerings.

I believe the V12 is gonna have 725 lbs of torque.

Again, if you have $115k for the G550 or $218k for the G65 AMG, sure go ahead. You get what you pay for and you pay for what you get. The LX570 starts at $81k and I would worry more for the G550 if it doesn't actually start providing anything more than the LX570 does for a whopping $34k more.

Lexus can go upmarket one segment at a time and the LX isn't really in the hottest segment that they should pursue first.

lx buyers aren't interested in a rocket ship. to me it's plenty powerful enough.

since lx is based on lc and they are actually used off road and in places where gasoline quality is poor, that's probably why no direct injection.
