See if CA has a "Hot Line" to report excessive (or suspect) price-gouging. Some states do have such a hot line, which goes to the state's Attorney General's office, where, if deemed credible, the complaint is investigated.

It will take $15+ extra to fill a tank now. You know how many homeless people you can feed with that?
.......provided those people actually spend it on FOOD.

But still, governor brown should issue a temporary relief on stringent refinery standards so that we can use "dirtier" gas for a short time.
He (maybe?) can relax state standards, but not EPA standards.

Letting us use dirtier gas for a month won't burn a hole through the ozone layer
Maybe not, but it probably won't do the smog-filled L.A. basin any good, either.

I just pumped at Costco today at $3.45/gal for regular. Shell, Chevron, etc were all $4.39/gal. Never seen that huge of a difference before.

Why are you using REGULAR gas??? And by the way people, Costco gas is rated Tier 1 for their premium gas.

Actually, that's a good point. Can't say I disagree. The only hitch, though, is that most people don't fill up a 20-gallon fuel tank with $5 Starbucks...more likely an 8-16 oz cup.

There's a gas crisis right now in socal.

Supplies are low, so they jack the price way up.

Supposedly the gas station owners are panicked.... but it all just looks like greed to me.

Gonna fill up only what I need until this bullsh goes away.

Gas prices were actually going down across the country, but not in California. A shortage in oil and other components used in refining California's unique blend of less-polluting gas was one of the reasons for the price jump, industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday.

A slowdown in imported crude and a refinery shutdown in Torrance also caused wholesale prices to skyrocket, experts said.

Meanwhile, I paid $2.79 for Premium @ Costco in Denver.

The price for Regular has been around $3 plus or minus North of Chicago lately.

Folks here have pointed to the stab and grab premium for Premium and we are seeing it here, $.70 extra where it used to be under $0.40 extra.

Wow. Just filled up on regular, $2.73/g at Costco in Westchester, NY. Premium is at $3.15 and I'll be filling up the other cars this week. The prices in California are crazy. I hope that $5.99 was a joke or something...

Prices went up one dollar per gallon in two days here in L.A. We are now at $4.60/gallon for premium. Absolutely ridiculous and a record spike. The official word I'm hearing is there's a shortage mainly due to one refinery that had a fire BACK IN MAY! So since May, they couldn't figure out how to get us enough gas? Are they new to the idea of supply? Have we never driven cars in the month of July? I'd be fired if I handled my business this poorly. Blame who you want. We are being had yet again and nothing is being done about it like usual.

By the way, the notion it's smoggy in SoCal is pretty much false. We've not had smog problems for roughly a decade. The gas we burn is indeed cleaner, but that only accounts for a very small part of the price hike.
