Default Toyota Land Cruiser Got Dino-Sized Shaft in 'Jurassic Park' Movie

The Jeeps and Explorers that gained oh so much popularity after being featured in Steven Spielberg's mega hit, "Jurassic Park," were actually Toyota Land Cruisers in the book written by Michael Crichton.

They used Mercedes in the second one as well, the M class was new and heavily featured in that movie as a product placement.

Big deal. Toyota didn't fork over the cash, Mercedes did so they deserve to have their products in the movie.

There was a pretty cool scene where some old 92 Jeeps from the original were found. Overall it was a good movie for 4X4s.

Yup, all this is is product placement/advertising. Whoever is the highest bidder gets their vehicles in the movie. What the writers and producers want isn't too relevant. These days, most TV shows and movies blatantly place products for revenue. It's annoying when it's in your face and distracting from the show itself though. Especially when the camera pans over the badge.

Nah it was pretty cool with the way the product placement were obviously shown in Jurassic World.

The Mercedes used were way cooler than any of the Toyota counterparts or anything they could offer. Especially the 6 wheel g-wagon. Landcruisers just look bland in comparison

in reality, book has "boring" land cruisers, as does rest of the real world while MB has to pay product placement to get there.

Have any statistics to back that statement up? There are plenty of Mercedes all over the world, including that 6x6. Especially in Dubai. Furthermore, you realize that the author could have been paid by Toyota to have their cars in his book, right?
And they're still boring.

The park in Jurassic World was advertised as a kind of luxury theme park, from the hotel, the cruise ferry, to the high tech rides. The GLE seemed to fit perfectly.

In the fictional novel or fake world of Hollywood, you can use whatever vehicle strikes the audience's fancy.

Jeeps etc appeal to American audiences which equals some product placement.

In the real world of Africa, Asia and South America. Toyota, Nissan body on frame suv's are all over those continents, usually diesels. Nobody's gonna fix a high end suv in the Sahara.

I think suv's are supposed to be boring if that's the correct term. That's because they're utility vehicles. The UN bought thousands of Land Cruisers over the years. They work and they're reliable.

The Canadian military used MB G-Wagens for the war in Afghanistan for the years they were there. I think the G-wagon is a superior vehicle than any Land Cruiser, IMO.

I have some news for you, Ford Ranger pick ups and imported Chevys have been used for a long time in the middle East and Asia. While it is true the LC is used, there are other vehicle that are used.

I totally agree, out LX450 which is a fancy Land Cruiser is a lame Cruiser as it has no ***** and no power. Yes it does have solid axles and lockers from the factory, but the 4.5 should of been a V8. Cargo carry capability is very good but towimg sucks and going up hills while loaded is a long slow journey.
