the reverse lights still dont look like LEDs...If I'm right, why go to the length of using all LEDs front and rear except for the reverse?

the next generation land cruiser is due in 2017 as a 2018 and the new LX is due in 2019.

Too funny, but accurate.

Excellent work, as it gives us a better perspective of the rear. Those silver prototype photos were very misleading in terms of taillights, as elements of them and chrome accenting blended in too much. I initially was not able to tell they were L-shaped.

I really like that sketch, as if that was my first sight of the updated LX, I would think it was a 300 and not a 200. Toyota spent a fortune on this clearly, which is why it needs 3.5 to 4 years.

The 2018 Land Cruiser 300 is going to have flush taillights this time around. All of the 300 design proposals from early 2014 had them, so likely they haven't deviated from that. The "release model" (production design) is probably done with by now, but we won't know anything until late next year or 2017. I think you might see that before me, concerning your professional work IIRC.

Thank you for confirming that. That's what I thought, but it will also likely be staggered global release through 2018. Japan will likely get them by December 2017. There is a degree of separation occurring between the Land Cruiser and LX as we predicted last year, which we've now been proven to be correct.

If anything does change, we are not really at fault nor "incorrect", as sometimes unforeseen delays do occur and what we've said now about 300, is what is accurate in the present. The 4th generation LX will likely remain BOF or become monocoque. At this stage, I can only GUESS that they are still designing that and in the concept stage of development, unlike the 300 Land Cruiser (signed-off by now).

The next GX will have to be locked-in this year, in time for a 2017 intro or if not, early 2018.

Not sure how Toyota develops upper-end derivatives at times, as the 1998 LX470 was frozen by the start of 1996, over 18 months after the 1998 Land Cruiser 100 (mid-1994 sign-off). The ED2-designed 120-Series Prado was frozen in early 2000, before launch in late 2002. The GX was styled in Aichi by the end of 2000, but IDK about sign-off.

My point is, how far apart can a new 180-Series Prado be launched from a 3rd generation GX? Product planners had to be caught off-guard during 2014 by the sales improvement on the 2GX facelift (150 Series II), probably having to make very serious decisions (rethinking) lately.

It seems that the next Prado (180) likely requires 36 months (from mid-stage development to production) through 2017, so hopefully a Lexus derivative can shave off development time for a platform variant.

Any news on whether the engine will get a power bump? I was looking at an Escalade this morning and was surprised it churns our more hp/torque and gets much better mpg.

Are there any pictures of the second row of the 16 lx curious if it has the captains chairs or the bench like it currently has.

Never seen it, but that's a great point. Would love to see that as an option
