GM isn't sitting on their *** with the 3.6 in the 2016 ATS. The new one will be making 335hp/285 tq. That's what I would've liked from Lexus but it'll never happen.
Yeah, it's a little disappointing as competitors are really starting to distance themselves in the power/acceleration arena.

Makes total sense and feel the same way that the US will also still offer the 350 in RWD due to market demand, but who knows... the 300 might be the only AWD model with the 350 to be exclusive in RWD.

3IS started sales July 2013... it wont be refreshed before 2016, that would be way too soon.
GS and ES started out in 2012.

OK so they matched 2.0t with 8-speed and that's most likely the reason of not having an AWD option.

Except that IS350 RWD uses 8 speed and IS350 AWD uses 6 speed auto.

thats what he meant - for whatever reason they cant match 2.0t with 8AT and AWD in their current RWD platforms... maybe space?

The NX 200t still has 6AT with the FWD design so it must have something to do with the AWD system itself. I guess that only a very small number of the nX200t will be sold as FWD, so they did not care about the 8AT .

in the case of NX, thats something else... they simply made decision to have it with 6AT... Lexus RWD based vehicles use different AWD system anyway.

can't believe no one posted this. Autoblog just confirmed IS200t will pack 241hp 258lb-ft, eight-speed auto, will arrive in US in early 2016

Good to see confirmation of it coming to the US, though I don't think there was ever much doubt about that. They did just post the European press release, so it'll be interesting to know where they got their confirmation. I was hoping for a US press release. This quote in the article made me laugh, though:

Those numbers whoop the 2.5-liter V6 by 37 hp and 73 lb-ft, and they're just 65 hp and 19 lb-ft under the 3.0-liter V6 in the much more popular IS 350.
The 250 has always sold way more than the 350, and the 350 is a 3.5 liter, not 3.0.

Seems like this thing is tuned for fuel efficiency as only that can explain 7 seconds sprint time while new A4 with same specs does it under 6

Or because superior weight to power ratio. New A4 is 500lb lighter (euro spec).

to be fair that was 0-100 km/h converting into 0-62 mph. anyways, i have a feeling the US version will be quicker, and even if not, the turbo boost will at least make it feel like faster to us

As to the detuned 2GR, what exactly could they have taken out? My bet is D4S.... they have to make it cheaper somehow.

Far better option than old 2.5l... should be a much nicer drive now.
Doubt its the removal of the D4S. We already have a non-D4S 3.5L and it pumps out 278hp and 248ft-lb or so. Then again the LS 4wd engine produces less power than the rwd version so its not impossible they would do that.

D4S plus detune... they have to make it cheaper if they wanted it to replace 2.5l price point... so it is not going to be same engine as 2GR-FSE.

Perhaps full Atkinson cycle rather than Otto cycle (2GR-FXE without the hybrid transmission)?
