Seems like just engine/powertrain changes this year. So refresh could still be coming next year.

Exactly. I would expect some sort of refresh for '17.

That's a bummer, for me at least. They could have taken that chance to polish the front grill and and headlight to be align with refreshed GS and RC.

Showing up on Car and Driver news now.

http://blog.caranddriver.com/turbo-t...replace-is250/

The 2.0-liter will be mated exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission, an upgrade from the IS250’s six-speed ’box. Whereas the IS250 is offered with rear- and all-wheel drive, the IS200t will be rear-drive only. Look for another, as yet unannounced, new engine to cover the AWD market.

New engines, including a turbo :: additional standard equipment :: fresh model line-up including new F SPORT editions for all models :: Bold design :: Driver-focused

(TORONTO, ON – June 26, 2015) Get behind the wheel: The Lexus IS luxury sport sedan is the innovative sedan that delivers complete driving enjoyment. New for 2016, the Lexus IS is offered in an all-new line-up, with new engines and a whole lot more.

“From the moment you touch the throttle in the Lexus IS, you’ll know: This is it,” said Cyril Dimitris, Director, Lexus Canada. “When we introduced the current generation IS in 2014 it established a new benchmark for bold styling and track-proven dynamics that deliver maximum driving. Now, we’re making the IS even better, with more standard features and a fresh line-up of available upgrade packages.”

New for 2016:

Lexus introduces the IS 200t to the lineup, featuring a powerful and efficient turbo-charged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. First used on the Lexus NX, this turbo has been optimized for the RWD IS 200t. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with sport-direct shift control and sequential multi-mode shifter, the IS 200t generates a peak 241 horsepower and up to 258 lb-ft of torque
Lexus boosts the AWD IS line-up with the new IS 300 AWD – delivering more horsepower and torque than the IS 250 AWD model it replaces. With a 3.5L V6 and a six-speed automatic Super ECT with sequential multi-mode shifter, this model produces a peak 255 horsepower and up to 236 lb-ft of torque
All Lexus IS models are enhanced for 2016 with additional standard equipment, including rear seat side airbags (for a total of 10 airbags) and the added versatility of 60:40 split folding rear seats
All F SPORT models now include a moonroof and rain sensing wipers

The IS luxury sport sedan builds on the Lexus reputation for quality, comfort and safety with cutting edge design, best-in-class features, and exceptional performance:

Choice of two engines and two drivetrains
GS inspired steering and rear suspension delivering exceptional handling
Bold exterior design highlighted by a distinct interpretation of the Lexus signature spindle grille with unique LED front light treatment
Driver-focused, ergonomic interior features a low driver position for improved comfort and driving experience
F SPORT models feature special interior and exterior styling and performance enhancements, including unique seats designed to combine excellent comfort with outstanding lateral holding performance
Intuitive Human Machine Interfaces and user-friendly screens

All 2016 Lexus IS models feature an impressive array of luxury amenities and performance enhancements, including: Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), Drive Mode Select, six active safety technologies including Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, auto-leveling HID headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights, and more.

The 2016 Lexus IS was imagined and engineered with a single mission – to deliver complete driving enjoyment. And that’s exactly what it does. For 2016, the Lexus IS is offered as follows:

Standard features include: 17” aluminum alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, Lexus Display Audio system with steering wheel-mounted audio controls, integrated XM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats, auto dimming rear view mirror, power windows with water repellant front door glass, leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, Lexus Smart Key system with Push Button Start, integrated garage door opener, an onboard first aid kit, heated exterior mirrors, and more.

Odd that it also notes the addition of rear seat side airbags and of split folding rear seats for the '16 models, which were already standard, at least here in the US. Were they not standard on the Canadian models?

That's a really strange decision that will crowd the lineup - when Infiniti offered a G25 with a smaller version of their VQ it pretty much tanked since it wasn't that significantly cheaper nor more fuel efficient than it's 3.7L big brother. I really wonder what Lexus Canada's pricing strategy will look like.

And it's sad to see them taking the German lead of mis-aligning displacement with output of their engines. An IS300 should be a 3.0L engine, not de-tuned 3.5L.

Base model currently is bare bones in Canada. Not even a sunroof which I believe is standard in the US. But the price does reflect it at 37K Cdn is almost the same starting MSRP as in the US versus our RC starts at 53K Cdn vs 43K but comes with a lot more equipment including the larger 19" wheels, BSM, etc,

But, the bigger shocker to me is the IS 300 and how it's unconventionally Lexus in its nomenclature (3.5L engine not a 3.0L) and whether it's an all new engine or not...

Thanks for the reply and explanation.

My mind is blown as well at the IS300.

Yea I don't get it either. I thought a new 3.0L V6 with a XGR-FSE designation was going to be announced.

I've given up on anything happening to the IS 350. I think it stays exactly the same for the entire run of the 3IS.

GM isn't sitting on their *** with the 3.6 in the 2016 ATS. The new one will be making 335hp/285 tq. That's what I would've liked from Lexus but it'll never happen.

I would assume US will be RWD IS200t, AWD IS300, and the IS350 in both AWD and RWD. If the IS200t really is only available as RWD, they'll need the IS300 AWD model to fill the hole of the lower model AWD option.

i have no idea why are some people expecting them to cancel IS350 AWD in USA... thats pretty laughable idea.

As to the detuned 2GR, what exactly could they have taken out? My bet is D4S.... they have to make it cheaper somehow.

Far better option than old 2.5l... should be a much nicer drive now.
