i doubt these two engines will be sold together in same markets... if 3.0l ever comes to be anyway, or if it is not rebadged 2.0t.

Well the last-gen IS was available as the IS300 with the 3.0L 3GR-FE engine in China and certain Middle-East countries. The 3GR-FE was basically a longitudinally-mounted Camry engine with 0.5L less displacement.

Audi and Mercedes had this many years like the Audi 1.8T vs 2,4 V6. Different versions of the 2.0T vs 2,4 2,8 and 3.0 V6 . MB had the 200Kompressor vs 240 V6. They did not have the same output but the performance was very similar. The turbo 4 was cheaper to buy , had a lot better mpg and you could tune it up to destroy the V6 for 1000 dollars.

But that is not the whole truth.

The V6 was very rare in smaller lower end cars like the base Audi A4 , but the 2,4 V6 ( a weak and very lame engine ) was among the most sold petrol options in the A6 for a long time. People clearly wanted refinement over top end performnce there. The only reason for them to not have this option today is due to taxes on volume and CO2 emissions.

its 2GR-FSE with lower displacement, and with D4S removed where fuel was bad... In Europe, GS300 had 3GR-FSE until new generation came in 2012.

Do you think the IS with 2.0t could be rwd only and the 3.0 NA only available in AWD? Maybe that's the case as the NX with 2.0t is front wheel drive or AWD but not rwd.

i dont see why... they made even 300h engine with AWD in their RWD-based vehicles in Japan, I think it was one of the Crown series.

I am excited about engine updates to the IS line but isn't it possible they are just bringing the IS300h from EU over to the states?

Found the thread that I referenced on page 1. Again, not saying that this is official, but also looks like a couple other people have heard the same thing. All speculation.
