For passenger cars, the average age has hit a record high of 11.4 years, while the average age of light trucks has increased to a record 11.3 years, Polk said. The latest data is based on a review of over 247 million U.S. car and light truck registrations in January, Polk said.Aug 6, 2013

Actually, that underestimates it some. More than ten years ago, early models of the Prius were routinely getting 45-50 MPG in routine suburban driving.

Their WTY is low because of money or design?

I have an 11 year old Corolla. ALL the paint is still like new. Same with my 8 year old Yaris. And I live in the salty northeast.

This insures I never buy a Nissan. Good one Nissan.

Exactly. My 2004 ls430 is more reliable, smoother, and just more pleasurable to own at 11+ years old than many of these newer Nissans. I commend companies like Lexus/Toyota for designing such a pleasurable automobile designed with quality and longevity in mind. Infact, I remember a Consumer Reports article that said a 1998 Lexus Ls400 was more reliable than a brand new 2008ish? Mercedes s class.

Companies that produce junk should not be rewarded with a sale. All it does is encourage them to produce more junk.
Notice in the video below. I was watching it and everything seemed routine and like sound advice, until 00:59. So if I have to move the car out of the garage and turn it off quickly. When I come back, my Renault/Nissan may not start??????

Idle for 2-3 minutes before shutting off? It's not a turbo engine, why does it need to do that? Can someone explain it to me, please?

He clearly thinks he is speaking to the "disposable generation". Wasn't that in the 80's and 90's?

Interesting article but who cares, everyone knows that Manufactures don't care about the 2nd owner, especially the 5th owner when the car is 10 years old.

As for rust on the Altima, no different then the issue with 10 year old 4Runners and Tacomas, but once again who cares, the dealers don't even care, take that old thing down the road

"Does it matter if the door handle lasts 10 years or 20?" Pelata says, "No it does not, because the person will not have the car after 10 years." - a Renault/Nissan executive
Oh really? Mr. Executive..

I'm going to email this guy a picture of my 16 year GS400..

Yet another reason why I will not buy a Renault/ Nissan no matter how good they look. There's also a video of a local news channel reporting on owners who are having CVT shudders from their 2013+ pathfinders but I can't find the video. I feel for the guy in the video below. He finally got it started in the end, but I think he revved it waaaay too hard though. It seems like (with a few exceptions) the newer the Nissan, the more Renault it has and the more problems it has and will have.

Again, you can't blame the transmission on Renault. This was all JATCO and their poor design...which is why they got publicly called out. The issues with these has been fixed but it was still a stupid thing to have happen. Almost as bad as FCA's initial issues with the ZF 9-speed transmission.
