I guess I would replace both with a unibody MB GL rival for the US and maybe even offer it in Europe. But would still offer the GX and the LX in the current formula for countries where they are selling really well (I suppose where wouldn't be much of an emissions issue in Middle East). Maybe differentiate the next LX a little bit more from the LC and offer it as a G Wagen rival in the US too.

How timely. As I sit in the lobby of the Marriott drinking coffee I see an LX 570(if my eyes are right) roll up. Certainly has the familiar lines of the Germans GX 450/550 series. Certainly looks better in person than pics. Sort of brutish looking won't break my heart to see it go by the wayside. However, I don't see it going anywhere if they can lobby congress like Hummer did and reclassify them in the same category as an "ambulance" thus exempting themselves from cafe laws. It's all about where you throw your money & influence. So long as we have SUV getting 10 mpg this vehicle will be around.

They don' t have to get rid of one of the two GX/LX.
They can make the GX into the Mercedes GL competitor and move the LX up into Mercedes G Wagon territory. At least both G wagon and LX are meant for off roading.
The GX and LX are a little too similar for me but I'm sure Lexus knows that and is definitely preparing some fun items after the models expire.

^^^ I see more of the 2014-2015 in Georgia compared to the 2010-2013.
3 years versus 1+ year equals high demand for the new GX.
I have the most modified GX460 on Club Lexus and I look forward to purchasing the next one .

Thanks. Yes. Combined I think the automakers could have considerable influence on standards. But I don't doubt for one second they are dragging their feet on better mpg from these vehicles. They scream, moan and ***** about fuel economy standards and say it's all dependent on a vehicles mass, aerodynamics, blah, blah, blah, etc...that's why SUV's are only getting 30mpg.
Really? That's why a motorcycle only gets 30 mpg right? Because their knives in the wind. Tell me again about mass & aerodynamics? Color other people stupid but their is no reason bikes shouldn't be getting 80mpg by now. Hummer at 8,000 lbs OK I get that and I'll cut you some slack.

Because these big behemoths are cash cows for all auto makers, not just Lexus. There's not much development cost to recoup from ancient body-on-frame designs and the components aren't fancy either. The huge V8 engines are designed more for longevity than anything else.
A lightweight monocoque SUV with lots of carbon fiber and aluminum with a hybrid diesel would be lovely but it would cost a fortune to develop. It also wouldn't be repairable under a tree in the outback.

The 4Runner has outsold the FJ, though, by a significant margin, even though the two are mechanically the same under the skin and interior. Toyota would have less reason to pull the plug on the 4Runner. In some ways, it actually has a cult-following......I know people who swear by them.
