Default rear ended this morning

Actually my 92 LS was hit by a brand new LS today. No damage to the other vehicle at all. The paint on my rear bumper spiderwebbed really bad as well as the bumper being pushed in. Does paint usually become brittle over time causing it to crack easily? Not looking forward to the appraisal on Friday 1st time having to deal with insurance. Prob not bad for being almost 30 i guess.

Just as long as you're safe and healthy, you're good.

The car, as much sentimental value it's worth , is replaceable.

In general, yes. Over time, the sun and high temperatures do cause some deterioration in the clearcoat layer, but more so on bumper-paint because it is usually a different formula (and sometimes applied differently) from the matching same-color paint that is used on sheet-metal surfaces. That is because the paint on the vinyl bumpers has to flex back and forth with the vinyl on the bumpers themselves. At first, when the car is new, the paint on the bumpers not only feels softer, but usually IS softer. But, over time, that can reverse, and the vinyl-paint will often actually fade, get brittle, and deteriorate faster than the metal-paint.

He hit you right? you should be good. if anything, you get a fresh coat/new bumper out of it.

Who is his coverage with? I was rear ended last week (minor damage - (I hope) and the driver had Allstate. They've been really good with quick responses.

My car is only 6 months old with 4k miles....

I got rear ended a while ago and I was pissed, not only my car was still new ( 1 year old with 6K miles ) and I tried so hard to not even get a rock chip on it, the impact also hurt my neck.
Moreover, the guy's insurance only paid to repaint/repair my bumper even though it was cracked and dented bad. Sure enough, the insurance authorized repair shop didn't do a good job, and I can still see the imperfection on my rear bumper :/

In Cali, if it's their fault, you can take it anywhere you want. I know some body shops that do high end exotics that make the insurance companies cringe. Haha.

Is that why?

I got bumped in the parking lot once, and I took it to the toyota collision center, which was more expensive than typical body shops. Other guy's insurance paid for all of it and the rental car.

Other guy was an upstanding guy and left a note on my car.
A year after getting the bumper repainted, some fool bumped into it again in a parking lot and ran off.
