Also OP- make sure whatever ILX you buy doesn't have the problems listed in this thread:

http://acurazine.com/forums/problems...issues-927427/

Sounds like some early adopters are suffering from programming issues. Don't know how widespread this is.

For me, if I was going to spend $30,000 on an ILX, I'd probably opt for a Mazda 6 Grand Touring instead. A faster 0-60, good handling, more room, and better gas mileage.

What are you talking about? The GTI can be equipped with:

12-way power seat
dual zone climate control
rain sensing wipers
panoramic sunroof
rear view camera
Keyless access
dynamic chassis control
forward collision warning
tilt/telescopic wheel
Home Link mirror

So in other words the GTI can be well equipped.
What about the other 10,11 items?
The ILX has more luxury features that are nice when driving just under 2k miles a month he drives.
Longer warranty too.

That's a good choice. Not saying the ILX is perfect (far from) though the MY16 helps tremendously. I'm still waiting on that diesel Mazda6

I definitely look into a newly refreshed Mazda6. It's a very nice car. Decent power and good looking, but I'm not sure about warranty coverage.

5 out of the 13 items you listed can be found in the GTI; the GTI has a few items that aren't available on the ILX (panoramic sunroof, dynamic chassis control, more power, front/rear proximity sensors) that are just as good on the 2k miles the OP drives. The GTI does have a rear view camera and xenon lights vs. LED's/multi view camera, so it those additional two items aren't a huge compromise then OP is good there too. I'd also like to note that the ILX's LED headlights don't move to illuminate corners like the GTI's xenons.

Longer warranty is nice, increased NVH on a highway drive is not. I'm not saying the ILX is worthless but what I am saying is the OP really needs to test drive both and see what really matters.

Truthfully if I was the OP I would be looking at a very well equipped Honda Accord/Mazda 6/Nissan Altima/Kia Optima if I really wanted to get the best deal at this price.

Mazda has 3/36k. I think the 2016 refresh will offer a head up display, like in the Mazda 3.

Good points but I'd go with the ILX between the two if I were doing 22K per.
I agree on the other car choices over both..

3/36 and 5/60........same as the other non-luxury Japanese makes in the U.S. (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru)

Agreed on Mazda 6 and Kia Optima... both headturners, even though the Optima has been out for quite a while.
