Default Dodge Viper 640 hp to 645 hp - is 5 hp upgrade noticeable?

As we all know, Chrysler Group increased the HP rating of the Dodge Viper from 640 hp to 645 hp for the latest model year.

Thing is: Can people even tell the difference between 640 hp and 645 hp?

yes of course it can be felt. its not just by adding "5hp". im sure they changed up a few things and the final output ended up being being 5hp over last model.

Nope but its a great PR and legit reason to show up in media.

Viper is truly a car of yesterday, probably the best of its kind today.

5hp on a large engine like this, no you won't feel a difference. 5hp on something smaller yes.

Depends on how much the 5 HP figure affects torque. Torque is usually what you feel in acceleration...HP more for overcoming air resistance at higher speeds. Engineers spend a lot of time programming HP/torque curves for how they want the engine to respond at various RPMs.

I also agree with Hoovey that the heavier the vehicle and the larger the engine, the less effect you will be likely to notice.

You would feel +5 hp on a lawnmower, not on a car though
