And personally, I find the A5/S5 a fairly boring design. It has decent proportions (not hard given it's a coupe), but other than that, it's nothing particularly special.
If Lexus makes cars that look like Euro boxes, why wouldn't people just buy the Euro version. They're trying to find their own way, and personally I think a lot of people find it refreshing. They have options if you want more sedate vehicles (hence IS and GS), but from personal experience, a lot of people once they see the new Lexus models in person, actually find them a lot more intriguing and interesting than previous Lexus models. Quite a few of my colleagues have gone to check out the IS/RC/NX whereas in previous generations, they wouldn't have considered Lexus at all (all previously owned BMW/Audi/Mercs).
They're never going to please everyone, and I'm glad they're pushing the envelope a bit, otherwise they'll become another "one sausage, three sizes" company.

I haven't talked to anyone (important) at Lexus about the LF-LC since early last year, but all my sources were definitive on that it would make production. Most also said that it would be based on GS chassis, which I found weird as far as how it would slot with the RC F - but it could make sense as a bigger, more luxurious GT with potential hybrid option.

After some number crunching & basic arithmetic
As a matter of fact Lexus has declined in the USA (ultra core market) and worldwide also.
We'll compare the year 2007 when Lexus was on a roll with its L-finesse design language and compare that to 2014 with their "spindle-grilled" vehicles and Akio Toyoda at the wheel.
Not only did Lexus achieve a peak nominal sales of 329,177 vehicles in USA in 2007 but they also controlled a whopping 34% of the USA luxury market (BMW, Mercedes & Audi)
Fast forward to this Lexus spindle grill era, in 2014 Lexus sold 311,389 vehicles in USA, not bad for such polarizing and cost cutting designs, right? But what is important to take note of is that the Germans have absolutely capitalized on Lexus's new direction.
As a result in 2014 Lexus's share of the luxury market is down to just 26%
As you can all see Lexus share of the luxury market has gone down by a whopping 47% due to the transition from beautifully understated elegance to spindle grill

Which brands? BMW, Audi and Mercedes are up. They are Lexus' main competitors. Infiniti may be down, but they haven't introduced much new, decent product. Cadillac may be down because their high pricing predated their brand perception. I think even Hyundai, Kia and Lincoln are up right now. A rising tide (i.e. economy, household income, consumer sentiment) raises all boats.
lexus is definitely on a roll sales-wise. their 'come back' has been since the horrible earthquake/tsunami, and of course they're expanding the product line so it's not that surprising that sales are going up.

There was only 2 months of RC sales for 2014 (1,922 units) and the NX (2,927 units). A total of 4,849 units.
Sales for 2014 were 311,389 units. Take away sales of the RC and NX we have 306,540. Which is still greater than 2013 sales of 273,847. But nice try
Agreed, but that was not your original argument. You said population and blah blah are up/better, so sales should be up. I simply stated that wasn't true for every brand on the market.
My main point is there are people that seem to like the new direction. Otherwise wouldn't sales have tanked?
On a different note. We have a thread for both the LF-LC and the "new face of Lexus". If people want to talk about either of those topics, can you please do so in the appropriate thread?

Hahaa I like how some here are making claims without any factual backings..

the Germans are making better cars today. thats a fact, their quality has improved since the 90s and early 2000s. so it only makes sense that people are going back.
the Germans also offer a boat load of niche products that Lexus just doesn't. (i8, i3, X6, X4, X1, 6 series, 1/2 series, AMG GT, GLA, CLA, A Class, B Class, G wagon, and etc)
sales were really good back than. but that was a different time. for example Lexus use to sale like 35-20k LS a year. almost no one can do that anymore, except for the new S class.
i think that time period was really bad for Lexus. can anyone honestly say the SC430 looked better than the SL? or how about S190 GS vs the W211 E class.
From 2013 to 2014 the line pretty much remain unchanged.

lets not also forget about the GX.
Lexus GX sales up 87 percent for the year
2014 Lexus GX 460 in Short Supply on Dealer Lots
Lexus GX has quietly more than doubled its sales this year

Also, notice that I recently owned a '13 GS F Sport, so I'm in no way anti-Lexus. I just happen to have an Audi for the next 2 years until the LF-LC (or whatever it's called) is introduced.
